Well, the Caps somehow lost to Detroit, but Mrazek played pretty great so it's hard to be mad. Unless this is the beginning of the Caps' annual slide coming off that break.

thanks for the serious replies! i guess i was thinking less in terms of iron-man type records, which are impressive but i don't view on the same level of achievement as production-related records. same goes for winning championships, which is why i specified 'individual' records, and for old timey sports fellas that set crazy records before electricity was invented the chamberlain record is a good one. still feels like gretzky's scoring has got to be at least top 3 in terms of untouchability, if not #1

The really untouchable records in North American sports are all of the pitcher records from the late 19th/early 20th centuries. Wilt's record will probably get broken someday...Kobe Bryant had 81 a few years ago, that's a whole lot closer than any modern pitcher will ever get to 680 innings pitched in a year or whatever that record is. As far as NHL records that are actually sort of breakable (no one will ever beat 502 consecutive goalie games period) go I feel like Bobby Orr's +124 is pretty much untouchable unless the league changes in crazy and unpredictable ways. No one has gotten even halfway there in the last 30 years. edit - also, 472 PIM edit 2 - a 6.42 GAA over an entire season bewbies fucked around with this message at 03:43 on Feb 19, 2017 |
