Ah, yes, if the build quality on the Model S sucks then I can't wait to see a $35k car from the same company.

I'm ambivalent to the Tesla brand, got to sit in a S for like 30 seconds, but my boss has a 3 on the way, so I guess I'll be able to comment on the quality here in a few months, at least compared to his current A4.

My parents have a P85D that they've put ~25k miles on in the past two years. It's needed both motors replaced twice, a few suspension components replaced, the hood has never lined up properly, there are exposed philips head screws under the mirror that are shown when they pivot while the car is off, etc.

I've started playing "spot the panel gap/trim misalignment" when next to a Tesla at the light and I've never lost. They may have the tech but their build quality is absolutely attrocious.

I know they're mediocre build quality, there's little danger of me buying one when I'm generally buying £1-3k cars but it would be nice if the leaf didn't look crap or the tesla didn't fall apart. Less planned maintenance was the point though.

My boss has a Model S, an older one. I don't have a list of the issues but I think I have seen loaners almost as much as I have seen his car... Somehow he still loves the car.

Rigged Death Trap posted:Other than everyone in the stands dying by asphyxiation yeah there isnt one. Air is 70% nitrogen. If the people in the stands aren't dying from asphyxiation or CO poisoning when a regular funny car goes down the strip, they aren't going to die from a liquid-nitrogen-cooled electric one either. The driver would probably want to wear an oxygen mask though. InitialDave posted:They still have cooling systems, too. Yeah, I suppose "no fluids at all" is a little facetious since you'll still have to replace brake fluid on a normal schedule and there may be coolant or gearbox oil to change eventually. But all three of those last orders of magnitude longer than liquid fuel, engine oil or DEF. Like, I looked up the maintenance schedule for a Zero electric motorcycle once. Aside from tires and brake fluid/pads, the first maintenance item is the motor output shaft bearing (a $15 part) at 50,000 miles. Hell yeah.

It's always fun trying to figure out what kind of car it was from the doors.

Besides i dont tend to think on the raw physics of most things

You know what? I'm okay with straightpipe-only-header. The welds look airtight, and dude made use of the tools he had, not the tools he wanted. I mean, don't pretend it's something it's not, but as it is,

I remember reading somewhere they don't actually meet emissions laws in any country that has them. So I dunno, maybe they'll figure out what's worth more, scrapping them or selling them in sub-Saharan Africa or Indonesia.

They're going to put lawn mowing decks on them and sell them as tractors. emissions there are based on horsepower and most tractors have like 15, so a 138hp one can soot soot soot all day.

HELL YES I'm picturing this: The Great Dirty Diesel Dub Derby Series (basically a smash 'em up roller derby for cars) 10 teams, 10 drivers per team, events held in 5 locations per weekend. (one team travels, one team is 'home') 5 races per event. Drivers get fresh cars every race. 36 week season March - November. Held every year for the next 30 years. If they're gonna scrap 'em, let's make it interesting!
