I really doubt any of the games released so far this year will have had a bigger marketing push than the first party sony game

games like nioh and yakuza are cool and all but they aren't gonna have the same kind of backing or mass appeal

To be fair, the audience for it is quite different and more mainstream than the audience for things like Nioh and Nier 2 so it could still do fine. Still it's a new IP so who knows?

its deffo gonna outsell all comers i would think. its been having huge marketing for like 18 months and isn't as niche in the west as platinum games generally are or zelda will be on limited numbers of launch hardware

I might reup my Gamefly subscription to play Nioh and Horizon: Zero Dawn (which I have pooh-poohed here in the past, but the reviews appear to be really good and I am a fickle, easily swayed consumer) once I finish FF15 and Fallout 4. So like in 6 months I guess?

I am more impressed the more I play, honestly. They built enough progression stuff to make it last a long time - you don't even get the really cool weapons/gear until you play for about 50 hours it seems. No goon has done it yet as far as I know. Combat has tons of depth. My one big issue is that when lots of people rage quit it can crash the whole game, but other than that it's become the only multiplayer game I play lately.

It will suck if you're not good at online multiplayer games though. You have to be better than average or you're gonna have a bad time.

Here's me taking on three players by myself and winning :smug:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgwZG8SdMHY

To those not familiar with the game, that's me stopping an execution (so I could revive my teammate) then blocking three attackers until my revenge meter (boosted by blocking attacks) caused a knockdown on anyone attacking me when that yellow pulse went out (two of three). Then the third guy tried to hit me with an insta-kill flaming arrow attack, which I narrowly dodged, and caused him to try to run away - but I was faster and separated his head from his body.

It's too bad some people in this thread want it to fail so badly because it really is fun and challenging and I believe will be around and popular for a long time. Just look at how many posts are in the For Honor thread.

The souls series of games + bloodborne are probably my favourite game series ever.

I started Nioh and it is undoubtedly awesome, but it has been temporarily shelved because grouping up with 3 of my friends and throwing people off ledges, into spikes and lava and other assorted activities have been the funnest times I've had in a MP game in a long time, and I've played all the CoD's, Battlefields, Titanfall, Vermentide, Space Hulk Deathwing, Overwatch, Killing Floor 2 and many other games across PC and PS4.

Getting in on the early days of a game like this are the best, compared to a mainly single player experience like Nioh that I can go back to any time.

In other words it's great and a week in I'm enjoying it more now than I was a week before.

My slight disappointment (although I know why) is that the biggest draw for me would be unlockable carrot poo poo but the only mode I care about (so far from betas) were the duels, where that stuff would naturally be disabled.

Still gonna give it a fair shake if I can pull myself away from Nioh.

Leslie Benzies, the former head of Rockstar North, sued Take2 for $150 million in unpaid bonuses and wrongful termination. Benzies was reportedly the man who got the games out of door when the Houser brothers were struggling with development. That excerpt about emails is from his lawsuit.

I have no idea why publishers get into a legal battle with former employees over unpaid wages rather than settle it out of court. The former employees tend to win, such as Martin O'Donnell winning over Bungie. More importantly, it publically airs all of company's financial agreements, contracts, and dirty laundry. You can just pay the lost wages and save yourself a great deal of legal fees and embarrassment.

It's weirdly set up but for Future Tone there are basically three components: a free version that's basically a demo, and then two DLCs called Future Sound and Colorful Tone which have about 100 songs each. Then on top of that there's a season pass for four other song packs with four songs each. Why they went through all this is beyond me.

edit: Future Tone is a hell of a thing if you have even a casual interest in rhythm games. Also I don't see any reason to only get one half of it or the other, you should just go all in and have enough music game to play until the end of time.
