Some of it comes from well-meaning social programs when it comes to living arrangements, where everybody's stuffed into some bleak 60's concrete suburb and dont necessarily have to work to eke out a semi miserable existence in a society where work is pretty hard to come by if youre not fluid in the local hard as poo poo to learn language and dont have the right education. There are a lot of successful immigrants in Europe as well, but just because all the populist pieces of poo poo are painting a bleak and false picture, its still helpful to admit that there are problems that need to be fixed.

I'm not really looking forward to the inevitable social upheaval on a global scale when most menial labor will be replaced autonomously so displaced immigrants are going to have some severe disenfranchisement going on as if they weren't already just from being in a foreign country and only having spare change to your name to start out with. Makes finding jobs harder, which makes integration even harder.

Populism will always champion extreme changes, which will incidentally try to make things much harder in favor of austerity or some bullshit and there will be a reactionary backlash to it at some point.
