If your coach only puts you on the power play but not the penalty kill? That only hurts your +/- because you can only get minuses while you're on the power play while penalty killers can only improve their +/-. Get lots of ice time because you're good, but your team is bad? That's just more opportunities for you to get minuses from your team mates' fuckups. Since it's a counting stat you're only going to go deeper into the hole the more you play. Not to mention if your coach puts you out for empty net situations because you're their best hope for scoring goals...more minuses! Stop injecting alternative facts into my narrative

Of the bottom 10 Leafs forwards in +/- from 2010-2015, 6 are also top 10 in TOI/G over that span. There are exactly 5 players to be positive that played at least 80 games over Kessel's time with the Leafs, one of them being Colton Orr.

I think we had Bonino from the start of that year too, we just never put Kessel with him until we traded for Hagelin mid season. Kessel has played with Malkin more than Crosby but primarily plays with Bonino actually. I mean in the playoffs last year Kessel was our leading scorer IIRC and he played exclusively with Bonino and Hagelin. Kessel is both a very good skater who can take quick steps, and he's got great hands so he can stick check well. I think he's actually more effective without taking the body on almost all plays. It's kind of funny how he got the reputation in Toronto for not backchecking, because he's very good at it.

It was mentioned the other night during the Nashville game those teams are 3-10-1 coming off the break so far. e- I guess it's 3-12-4 and 0-8-3 in February. The ambient air temperature for Saturday doesn't matter unless it was going to be like, 90. A much bigger problem is the quarter inch of rain we are supposed to get Saturday morning but I guess they can just cover the whole rink?
