Wolf sworn are tribal humans that live semi-barbaric lifestyles out in the fringes of society. Man of the tribes have sworn oaths of fealty to the Druids for protection and as such the Druids can tithe levies from them to serve in their forces when needs arise.

Tharn are savage humanoids that have fully embraced the Wurm. They reject most of civilizations trappings and live a hunter gatherer lifestyle deep in the woods of Immoren. Completely dedicated to the Circle, they gladly follow them into battle whenever their is a call.

So you could argue that Wolf Sworn are like Norsican Chaos tribesmen and Tharn are Beastmen.

I guess it's time to bust out the Skorne again. I haven't played them since 2014 or so. Back in the day my pairing was Xerxis1 and Hexy2. There is a local SR coming up in the next 2 weeks thinking to play Skorne.
I've adjusted my pairing to be X1 and Mak1. I'm really bad about coming up with pairs and don't know if they're really the best pair. I own just about everything before X2's release to work with, if that helps.

Xerxis 1
-Agonizer
-Krea
-Tiberion
-Gladiator
-Sentry
PGBH (Min)
Cetrati (Max) + Tyrant Vorkesh
Bloodrunners

Makeda 1
-Agonizer
-Krea
-Gladiator
-Mammoth
Extoller Soulward
PGBH (Min)
Venator Reivers (Max) + UA
Karax (Max)

I'm most uncertain about the X1 list. I'd really like to try pairing Mak1 with Zaal2, but don't own him or enough Immortals to really make it happen. Any thoughts on lists and pairings?

If you can get Zaal2 and the Immortal UA, you can do a list with a single unit of them too. I'm of the opinion he gets fueled better by value infantry than elites, but I understand that limits the value of his feat. But if he's out

I honestly like your first list a bit. enough that I want to try the Xerxis list out with slight mods (Swordsmen for Bloodrunners) this week or next week depending on my painting progress so I can get a Sentry done. I've had limited success with a list that was mostly Cataphracts, with the issue being that the infantry outside of Cetrati is paper thin now. Your list replaces the other Cataphracts with straight up beef.

I sort of uncertain about the Mak1 list. What value is the Mammoth giving you that a Bronzeback, another titan, and some change would not? In MKII, Savagery made a difference, but Lash doesn't even work with a colossal, and there are more efficient Jackhammer targets out there. I suspect there's something I'm missing here.

*****

My local group is having a 25pt doubles night on Friday. All the more experienced players are being lined up with a less experienced guy to try to help out in getting the ropes. My partner is doing something with Legion, so my plan is to use one of the following beef lists for Skorne:

Morghoul1 - Mammoth, Archidon, Min PGBH
Naresh - Mammoth, Rhinodon, Min PGBH

I want to give him a little bit of an Island of meat to work with in the center of the board, while still exerting some pressure up the field. Do you think either of these lists is too awful for a newer player to play against? The Gargantuan is a bit tough, but he can be shot off the table if you are modestly smart and prepared.

I don't think I'd run a gargantuan with makeda1 tbh. The list I've been running is molik, gladiator, sentinel, krea. Infantry and support to taste. Nobody can shoot molik off the table and then he gets delivered and puts you up significantly on attrition.

Main issue is protecting makeda, she usually hangs out near krea and another beast. Two shield guards + 17/18 is usually enough to keep her alive when you bring her up to use jackhammer or dominate or whatever.

The list is really shooting resistant, feat protects the units and the beasts are very hard to remove with guns. I think she's a very strong caster and can run lots of different builds, but a balanced build is working best for me.

Edit: she is primarily a anti warmachine/gunline drop for me, but she can be played into a lot of things. The list I have above might struggle a bit with armor skew I guess.

Well get a Hydra! It's crazy good and has been carrying me for the past few weeks. People try to fight it like a normal colossal and you kinda can't. I've had it heal 24 health in one turn. You kinda need to marginalize it and focus on other things like a AS Stormwall, which is pretty hard to do.

Hydra aside, I'd go with pMorg probably, if you plan on getting it into melee and beating face. IT depends on your ally's list really, if he's not going to screen or cover you, then the speed boost will help your threat range significantly.

To the problem with the hair, Makeda wear a wig as Skorne dont have hair. Maybe it is some kind of status symbol. Maybe Skorne saw that most factions in western Immoren have hairs and like it, or that Morghoul wants to show his power as even his underlings can wear wigs?

I like the whole unit much and hope that we will get more in this direction.

The X1 list is too beast heavy IMO, he can't really run all that with min paingivers (they don't fully clear fury anymore). I'd drop the Sentry and the Bloodrunners for Rhadeim and some Ferox, I'm just heading out so I can't do the exact math on that but it should be in the same ballpark. Ferox are really good now, especially with X1.

Not really. I organize the events for the group, and Sunday is the only day I can reliably come.

Having all the miniature games play at once is fine, Magic is something else. Thursday night is xwing night here.

Yeah, it is pretty much impossible to have any non-Magic stuff going on at a store when Magic is happening. They have a tendency to cover the entire store in my experience at every store I've played at.

And they are always given preference because they are a more reliable source of income than wargaming.

The problem is most of the people we have left are spread out over an area. We have a good number of players within 30 to 40 minutes of the store but they won't show unless they know we have a good turnout. So none of them show and only the people within 10 or 15 of the store come, and that's not a lot.

Like our best player has a 40 minute drive, and a year ago would make it every week. But as people started moving or quitting after mk3 he doesn't show up because it's not worth it. Admittedly part of that is because he's a skorne player and just couldn't bring himself to play with them.
