Buff and Kronwall get away with the exact same poo poo Malkin does.

Honestly both of them should have been suspended for 6+ games.

Malkin got away with one with the Wheeler hit. Basically it comes down to the DoPS having no real fixed criteria or standards for what is or isn't suspendable or how long a suspension any infraction will get, so any given suspension is a crapshoot. It's pretty lucky that Wheeler wasn't hurt, at least. Chris Pronger probably saw Wheeler come back on the ice while Malkin was in the box and decided he put his head in the way of Malkin's elbow to draw a power play.

Yes but the pens aren't out there crying about the other team getting away with poo poo. The Jets had two at least equivalent hits in the same game. I'm not saying that makes the Malkin hit less bad, but I am saying that they shouldn't be throwing stones in a glass house. Schultz is still out from that dumbass Byflugen board, that didn't even get 2 minutes.

Oh he totally did, but so did Byflugen and that Jets player that elbowed (I think) Rowney.

What, do you think they go to the press with this stuff themselves?

Reporters stick a microphone in their face and say "How do you feel about no discipline for Malkin?"

The guy's not going to say "Buff got away with one too".

The Jets aren't crying about it. They're being asked because Trouba just got suspended for a hit that was very similar to the Malkin hit.

And yes, Buff should have got something for that hit.

e: Wheeler has TSN on speed dial because he just can't get enough of talking to the press

Actually, looking at the tweet again its worded really poorly (ESPN). If you watch the video, Wheeler is asked to compare the two hits and starts by saying that they got the Trouba suspension right.

MacKenzie had an article about those two hits and why he thinks one was suspension worthy and one wasn't, according to the current rules. If you disagree with the rules that's one thing but as they are written and applied it's not that inconsistent

This reminded me that maatta got his hand messed up on a late hit in that same game and is out 4-6 weeks. Leaving us with 2 ahlers playing now from one game :/

Philip's dad, Ulf, is the coach of Carolina's AHL team.

Keegan is also the son of Kevin, which makes it one legacy for another (neither is playing in the NHL this year.)

In Laich's defence it's hard to imagine him being less effective than Ben loving Smith, but dude was clearly cooked last year and there's basically no tangible benefit to playing him over anyone else.

3-4 years ago he got injured and never was the same. Brooks was always a classy guy who never turned down a microphone in his face, but he couldn't produce for the Caps anymore and had to go. I'm still shocked we were able to dump him off to the Leafs to make that trade work last year.

I mean, there was literally no downside for the Leafs, they basically just bought Connor Carrick who's doing just fine.

It's tough to see him get hurt and never get his game back 100%. He seemed like a really good team/room guy from what the Leafs said about him last year, he was always a pretty good PKer, and he even seemed to handle his diminished role pretty well. Seems like he did all the right things to transition to the "beloved veteran" role. I wonder if an injury-riddled team like Ottawa might pick him up to have a guy who plays few minute and PKs but handles the role well, and won't be salty when he ends up a healthy scratch later. Unfortunately, you know Ottawa's too cheap to do that even if they have the cap space.
