coordinated with one of our dbas to switch some databases to a different server. got on s4b with him, let him know i'm ready, sent an email to everyone else to tell them the server's going down in 15 minutes 15 minutes later, do the transfer. takes like five minutes. tell the dba over s4b that everything's good and he should check up on how things look. then he lets me know that i interrupted a backup, where is the old server, i need to move some files off of the old server. he laments that we never got on the telephone to discuss things. i'm gonna choke him

surprisingly for this company's pathological need to roll their own everything, we only have one sso and it actually works (!!!)

I only know of one standard for authorization policy but it was doa, authorization is really a pain in the rear end and I wish someone else would fix it for me so I don't have to do it.

socialist group moved from slack to an open source replacement. many MANY reasons for this change were provided in an FAQ. none of my comrades read the FAQ and all started bike shedding the exact same questions. 12 hours after we switched, the new server fell over and no-one could get on so everyone went back to the slack to bitch
