it seems like cool games writers leaving their previous big site jobs and the luck they have is 50/50. The guys who made Videogamer funny, Jim Trinca and Steve Burns, left the site and haven't really done anything since then (Videogamer also went down in quality to an insane degree without them.) Danny O'Dwyer left Gamespot though and immediately created loving fantastic documentaries on DOOM and Rocket League and is rolling on to the next projects.

I wouldn't call the DOOM documentary fantastic but the rocket league one was cool. The Doom one felt like an ad for Bethesda

I don't get this at all. There was like an hour of extra footage with just the creative director bullshitting and a lot of it was actually about the failures of the previous Doom reboot. If anything id succeeded in spite of Bethesda. If Todd Howard had a 20-minute cameo maybe it'd be different.

When I think of Bethesda Shilling I immediately remember Adam Sessler's media run for Evil Within, which was godawful.

Well true. I'm just saying, if you had asked me 20 years ago I would have thought that by now LASIK would be something you could get done in an afternoon for $50.

The technology is getting better. What you're probably thinking of as LASIK has become much cheaper but it's also been surpassed. It's the new processes that are less invasive, faster healing, have fewer potential side effects, are available to a wider patient base, etc. that are more expensive. You can drop several G's per eye if you want the good poo poo or have eyeballs shaped like beanbag chairs.

I took this as a necessary evil so that he could get the people to talk to him. Might be harder if he was like "so that game before was a turd, eh? how'd you wipe away that poo poo stain and pull up your pants to make the next one?"

Doom 3 was well received back in the day despite the internet hating it nowadays. Its graphics were incredible and it was a solid atmospheric action/horror game despite not being like past Doom titles.

it also ran at like 18fps on PS4 so gently caress that noise for deciding "nope nothing wrong, ship it, boys"

they should have pulled a reverse Resident Evil 2 and have Mikami scrap it mid-development so Hideki Kamiya could finish it

Re4 is the game where they started getting rid of tank controls and feels very much like an experiment in control design.

It also has the series staple inverted difficulty curve.(It gets easier as the game goes on, even if the player isn't actually getting better)

And yeah, the QTEs were the first AAA game that really used them and really overused them iirc from the reception when it was new.

It was also made during the wonderful Brown gaming years.
