Just a FYI in case you not seen the weather -

https://twitter.com/metoffice/status/834348246319394816

This storm has potential for a Red Warning to be issued for the North West as some of the weather models are showing it with 90+ MPH gusts around Merseyside, with 80+ MPH widely in land. Might want to check your trees, etc especially if you are in the North West.

Is it half-term in Stoke at the moment? Certainly is where I am. That might change the turnout by itself with more working age people talking the kids for a walk down to the polling station and back in the wind just to wear em out a bit.

Well, it's simple. Democracy and tyranny are natural enemies. You can't become a true despot without first dismantling the democratic structure. Unelected dictators are far, far more common than elected ones, so it's just a game of probability. If you're elected democratically, the odds of you going full dictator historically are a lot less than if you just busted into high office on the back of a military coup.

I'm not sure I really buy that. I mean, y'know, :hitler:

So wait, was it made for a non-black, non-gay, non-working class audience or was it incomprehensible to a non-black, non-gay, non-working class audience? It can't be both.

Twitter commentariat are bad tho.

She's also one of the ones who went after "I' Daniel Blake" for the same things. She just doesn't like seeing poor people on screen. Can't imagine why the descendent of the 4th Duke of Newcastle would feel that way.

This result is clearly highly indicative of what the general election results would be.

Good!

This election was apparently all about the merging/closure of a school which the labour candidate opposed before the election began but yes, good!

The difference is, though is that Labour got in there first, like they should have with a clear plan for a People's Brexit (tm) if they weren't going to oppose it!

Man I hope the next GE is presaged by Corbyn going to I dunno Montserrat to apologise for the mediocre disaster relief while May goes and plants a shiny new flag in Pitcairn to show their attitudes towards colonialism.

We're all solidly taking the piss out of you. Council results mean the square root of gently caress all and are almost always predicated on local issues, especially for byelections.

It isn't a left wing/worker's party but its economic policy isn't "sack a million public sector workers, not including my bent wife from the perfidious Albion, and make the working week 48 hours long" which puts it ahead of Fillon.
