For the uninitiated, that is Clarissa from the comic Clarissa made by the same dude who did Weapon Brown.

I hate that I immediately recognised it, I was hoping it was just some random anime instead. Why make fan art of that comic.

People paying American dollars to let other people know they didn't agree with someone's position on something is the lifeblood of these forums.

Clarissa is a thing you want to look away from, but shouldn't. It's a heartwrenching depiction of a little girl's daily life being one of fear, depression, and self-loathing, while her family would rather ignore the situation of her being raped by her father, than deal with it. The serious subject matter is delivered by art and dialogue styled in the idealized newspaper comic strip bubble of 50s Americana. This makes it even more jarring and upsetting when the stark contrast of reality is thrown at you in a single line or panel. It's played straight, and pulls no punches.

It's convenient not to read Clarissa, and hard to face it, just like real child abuse.

There's enough abuse of real children going around that no one needs to be guilted into reading about fake accounts.

So your response is a pissy dismissal that proves my point, and shows you can't distinguish between a fake account and a work of fiction created to illustrate difficult subject matter.

That comic is genuinely disturbing, I had never encountered it before. Does it pick up again on the artist's site after that other series comes in?

SilverMike posted:

Guilted, no, but this is more than just a "fake account". Clitch is right about the presentation, I'm curious what therapists and survivors might think of it. Christ.

It's a good comic, it's not an entertaining comic, but it's a good one. Like you'd think it'd be black humor but no, it's not.

Friend who was abused read it. She said she hated everyone in it, Clarissa included, and read through it in a day. Not sure if that means it captivated her or not though since she's also the variety to sit and read a book until it's done.

Fan art tax and hopefully some mood lightening:
