A Good Post. I heard a radio interview a few weeks ago with a woman who was excommunicated for putting pretty low-level and polite pressure on the church to allow female ordination. To fill in those who don't know (as I didn't) literally every Mormon man is ordained from like age 12 or something like that, and women have to pay the same tithes and do all of the same work, but they get no say in church governance. A panel of men behind closed doors decided, for the crime of arguing that women should have rights and autonomy in the church, that she needed to literally be sent to hell (as that's the primary consequence of excommunication).

Prosecutors have said that Sedlak launched about 390,000 unsuccessful attempts to gain unauthorized access to the charitable organization's computer network.

Following his arrest, authorities discovered files on his computers containing child pornography, including a number of images depicting Sedlak himself sexually abusing a toddler, prosecutors said.

Sedlak as a result was separately charged in Florida, where a federal jury in Orlando in May found him guilty on charges including that he produced and possessed child pornography. He was sentenced in August to 42 years in prison.

If there's any risk they'll be hurt they get protective custody. So they're often around people who are also at risk and probably won't hurt each other out of fear of getting put back in General. That's not to say it doesn't happen. I think Jared Eat Fresh got assaulted by someone in protective custody. So he got bitch slapped by other bitches making him the bitchiest bitch in prison.

There was an "Ask me about prison life" thread in A/T a while back, and iirc the answer to that question was that didlers had to kept separated from the other inmates for their safety.

Sure all the inmates were criminals (arguably -- don't start a derail) but the didlers were considered sick wierdos.

Yes they are, which is something to consider with cases of possession since they will branded as a molester even if they never touched anyone. While they deserve punishment, they may not deserve being brutally assaulted because they downloaded sick poo poo off the internet.

They get put into protective custody and stuff, but man sometimes its just hard to keep track of all these prisoners and oh gee willickers i guess a molester got beaten again.

What are you looking at?
There are plenty of reports of COs simply looking the other way as they're leading protective custody prisoners from one area to another. A cousin of mine spent ten years in a prison in upstate New York and told me of how easy it was to bribe a CO to look the other way when you'd want to do something, especially if it was to someone they despised in the first place.

Not all prison deaths are reported, that's why most of them have Potter's Fields on the grounds. Would your family claim the body of someone that was imprisoned for a sex crime and then murdered because of it?

The really funny part is that even while he was committing a computer crime against some of the most powerful people in the country, something that would certainly get his computers seized as step one if they ever caught on, he apparently didn't bother to hide or encrypt the most radioactively illegal thing you could possibly imagine having on a computer.

I caught a child porn looker once upon a time.

I was working at an internet cafe (remember those?) in the early 2000s. Regular guy came in, grabbed his usual coffee and bagel, got a computer upstairs to play his usual Everquest.

I went upstairs half an hour later to collect his dishes, and he was in the bathroom. Had left his terrible terrible searches wide open on the computer screen. You can't unsee that kind of thing.

So I went downstairs and called the cops. Police Station was literally across the street so two officers immediately came over, snagged the guy red handed, and took him away.

The Schadenfreude is on me though - the police got a warrant to seize a number of computers for evidence (obviously) and the owner of the cafe was furious that I had 'tattled' on a paying customer and had a number of his machines "stolen". So I got fired. I would have quit anyway. Two weeks later the place was gone.

I was fired from a grocery store for messing with one of the managers (I touched his face with a rag I was cleaning with and he went and complained to the store manager, he was bothering me while I was cleaning so I booped him). My favorite detail from the prison A/T thread was that the dude heard about a group running a D&D campaign, which seems like a perfect fit for prisoners with a ton of time and little else to do.

He went to a session, because he's a goon. He left during that session, because 100% of the D&D players there were in prison for sex crimes and he didn't want to associate with them.

edit: Misremembering, here's the quote

quote:

Also I forgot to mention this, figure you guys will find it funny: People play dungeons and dragons in prison! I actually almost wanted to start playing, until I took a closer look at the prison dnd crew...100% sex crimes. There was one guy that tried to get a non-sex crime DnD game going but there wasn't enough people. They make little spinners out of cardboard since you can't have dice.

If it's the thread I'm thinking of (how many ASK ME ABOUT PRISON threads can there have been? (don't answer that)), he asked goons to send his buddy, who was still in lockup, random poo poo like hand-drawn penises in the mail. I don't know how many people eventually agreed to do so but I'm definitely one of them. Sent the guy some awful fanfiction, photos of Rachael Ray, and--of course--some hand-drawn dongs. I crack up when I think about a guy running down the cellblock with a bunch of printer paper in his hands yelling "GUYS YOU'RE NEVER GONNA BELIEVE THIS"
