I ended up watching about 95% of a Goode Family episode and while it wasn't horrible, I could see how it comes off feeling like a more mean-spirited King of the Hill that required everyone to be overly cartoonish. The episode I saw was about the kid playing football and they had to slaughter a pig at the end as a ceremony to win a game. King of the Hill has done right of passage episodes about hunting, sports, animals being killed, etc. and all I could think of would be they would have done that same plot with a degree of, "Are you kiddin' me?!" from most of the characters to the thought of them tying a pig to a tree to kill it as part of a ritual to win a game.

King of the Ant Hill is the only one on my do-not-rewatch list. Although to be fair I usually burn out long before season 13.

Usually I instinctively stay away from the weird hyper clean HD looking seasons, but last night I thought what the hell and put on an s13 episode about Bobby playing baseball and jeez you guys really aren't kidding about Hank's characterisation being completely wrong. The out-of-nowhere retcon about Bobby loving baseball despite sucking at it is weird enough, but earlier seasons Hank would never ever discourage him from playing, wtf

Hank turns really mean in the late seasons. Whereas at the start hed have a clear moral reason for something, later on they just have him be a dick.

The one thing about Bobby and sports is that he's shown a talent towards marksmanship that never really seemed to be brought up again, was it? Looking at the episode guide, it's from an episode produced and aired well before Columbine, though. I could sort of see post-Columbine the idea of a kids and guns episode being sort of off-limits.

They brought it up again in the Dale hostage crisis episode. Dale said that if they had to shoot him, he'd want Bobby to do it.

Not exactly "characters randomly changing to fit the story ala later Simpsons" but the organic food episode always frustrates me because it feels like they were trying to finish a laundry list of all the premises they had left over before the season ended, and so the episode has like 3-5 concepts that would have made interesting episodes on their own, and each time it just takes a uturn towards a different plot, until it suddenly ends with the guest start wrapping things up I wanted to see the payoff of hank starting a minifarm in his backyard

The only flaw is... Why would Johnny Appleseed be at the megalomart (at the beginning of the episode)

food court bailiff posted:Yeah, she straight-up fixes Hank's truck a few times. "This part was wrecked, we'll need to ups a new one." yeah, theres a line in one of the earlier episodes something a long the lines of "I borrowed your truck uncle hank , it had a blocked fuel line but I blew it clean" and Hank looks impressed and also when his dad shows up and sabotages his own car in order to stay over at Hanks house she can tell when he's trying to start the engine that a certain part (i forget which) is missing because she can't hear it. And in the episode where hank starts catching fish using crack as bait she is more involved than Hank is rebuilding the truck after the police take it apart to check for drugs
