Went to my first meeting. It was interesting. Membership in Chicago has ballooned over the last few months, enough so that they've had to break off into three different branches (it sounds like they may need to split the group I went to half as well) and the people running the meeting definitely were both happy and a little overwhelmed by the 100+ members in attendance. I thought about joining the Jacobin group, but sitting around reading is exactly what I did exclusively up until now & I don't know if I'm really contributing much of anything by doing under the auspices of an official organization. I'm still thinking about where to go next, but I'll definitely be back for another meeting. On the way out I bought a copy of Justice from the Socialist Alternative guy because he looked like he hadn't eaten in a while. The whole frail saucer eyed comrade intensity thing he had going on screamed cult to me, so I did not stop to chat.

I've got mixed feelings about whether I should join my locals' reading group because, while I think it's good for people less familiar with the basics, I already read that sort of material in my spare time, and while socialist theory is cool and good it feels lacking in pragmatism and visibility. I wish there was an obvious way to preach the proverbial good word to the masses without looking like a crazy street preacher type.

I made this thread just as attempt to make an effort thread to let ppl know about DSA, or give them info if they knew about it but wanted to know more. Seeing y'all coordinating irl and starting/joining chapters and trading strategies for better organizing and activism makes me so happy. OK feel free to call me lil homie gay rear end now.
