I felt this way before they implemented them but I didn't realize the linesmen missed so many calls. Seems like more than half of the challenges are successful. Maybe we should just get rid of the linesmen and automate it all. Two less bozo's to clog up the ice.

hifi posted:nfl refs tasked with doing the automatic reviews have to affirm the score before play can continue but i'd be surprised if the average time added was more than 10 seconds per score, and if they radio down to the field and tell the refs they need a real review, then who cares because they needed a challenge to get it right anyways. The situation room basically reviews every single goal that happens. Goals don't need to be challenged unless for goaltender interference or offsides.

glynnenstein posted:Develop a goal-line technology like in the EPL and let the rest fall as it may. No reviews. Who gives the tiniest poo poo about if the linesman missed offside by less than the width of the puck? How about we don't stop the game for 5 minutes so somebody can make a subjective call about goaltender interference. The thing I think is stupid is that crap like that is a subjective call and review just has a different person make a subjective call. It's loving stupid. If you're going to put cameras and/or puck tracking for goals why have linesmen at all? Just call them the goon squad and their job is to choke slam any players that get lippy. T-Bone posted:Apparently they might change the rule so you don't have to have your skate down. The reviews are garbage though, agreed. This is the rule in Canadian and IIHF hockey, it's stupid that it's not the rule in the NHL.

The review doesn't even have someone else making it. It's the game refs who make the decision. Toronto doesn't have input. Only on a ref initiated or automatic review (the kind we had before coach's challenge) is it Toronto making the decision.

Reviews are dumb and bad and sometimes bad calls happen. I don't want the sport to turn into football where every play is reviewed down to the inch.

I dunno, clearly offside and player launched a puck on an unready goalie. If that isn't a penalty there should at least be a 4 or 5 minute scrum about it.

despite alexander ovechkin and phil kessel being two of the most beloved players in the nhl, somehow i get the feeling that if you combined them not many kids would want (or be allowed to receive) their autograph Elite Prospects made a bunch more player mashups too, helpfully collected here.

He coached worse teams during his time in Boston, I don't think he'll give up that easily. I mean, remember that the only set plays the team had under Therrien were stretch pass, dump in, clear off the glass.

Man the Habs really really loving suck at this point and I'm not even sure I feel like watching of the rest of the games regardless of whether they still make the playoffs and are inevitably the first team to get bounced. Way too many games where they're just completely shut out or only manage one garbage goal for an NHL club. There isn't even a doubt in my mind that the team needs a complete overhaul in the off season and I hate to say it but I'm not even sure Price is in-expendable anymore. I'd rather have moderately less competent goal-tending from when he's at his best than these constant shutouts from a completely offensively inept team in the second half of every season. It's way easier to win a game and build streaks like 4-2 or 3-2 wins or something than it is trying to win every game 1-0. I still think Julien is and will prove to be a way better coach than Therrien in the long run for obvious reasons but it's crystal clear the problem isn't a coaching one after all. The teams just not nearly as good as it always appears to be to open seasons. Kale fucked around with this message at 04:59 on Feb 24, 2017 |
