The only other fighters I can remember with 4+ at that time were Maynard and Miller, so it was a significant achievement at that time. And for comparison, a 4-fight run got Clay Guida into a title eliminator vs Bendo a year later. yeah, i just remember specifically that he was one of those guys that dana and joe would refer to as possibly being another anderson during prefight hype videos and whatnot.

The Barboza KO happened almost two years after that event. Edgar won the title in Abu Dhabi on a card that definitely didn't have anything as cool as that KO. Etim apparently lost to RDA on that card, but I have zero recollection of that fight ever happening.

Frog Princess posted:It helps when those opponents are douchebags. It really doesn't. Its a dick move in every possible sense and really should have been policed more. Terry Etim had some buzz around him in terms of being an up and comer but Rogan was talking about he found him to be an extremely nice guy, super polite and respectful to everyone he met, talked about moving to the US to get better training partners etc, knew the flaws in his own game basically a smart fighter. Then barboza slept him and he changed dramatically and his career and evidently his life have gone off the rails. Scary poo poo.

You and the other guy signed a contract to hurt each other as much as possible under a certain rule set until either one specific man says stop or a bell rings. If that one specific man hasn't stopped you and a bell hasn't rang I'm not going to look down on you for not being a gentleman to a guy who seconds previous was attempting to maim / kill you.

I used to judge people for hitting the unconscious man they were fighting sometimes less than 1 second ago but then I remember that they've been hit in the head a hundred times and their body is only still working because every cell is screaming to their brain that they're either getting chased by a lion or fighting one, doesn't matter, here's the stuff needed to be as effective at that poo poo as possible.
