Actually did you know ireland is an entirely invented and fake country if you examine history correctly and the very idea of an irish "culture" or "nation" is just an Iberian and later nazi plot to encircle poor great britain? Did you know some of these so called "irish" nationalists worked with nazi? Ireland is a fake country and a nazi country and england is justified to re-take it. I actually did have an Irish guy take a poke at me at a bar a couple years ago when I insinuated they were a bunch of Nazis during World War II. Fortunately he was drunk as poo poo and missed despite being all up in my face. Throwing the punch seem to calm him down and we kind of resumed our conversation after that.

Do I: E) Back up and ensure they are dead before leaving the scene. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_...it_china_s.html quote:In April a BMW racing through a fruit market in Foshan in China’s Guangdong province knocked down a 2-year-old girl and rolled over her head. As the girl’s grandmother shouted, “Stop! You’ve hit a child!” the BMW’s driver paused, then switched into reverse and backed up over the girl. The woman at the wheel drove forward once more, crushing the girl for a third time. When she finally got out from the BMW, the unlicensed driver immediately offered the horrified family a deal: “Don’t say that I was driving the car,” she said. “Say it was my husband. We can give you money.” Their logic is that it's more economical to pay one time for a penalty / restitution for the remaining family rather than medical costs for that person for the rest of their lives. kimcicle fucked around with this message at 00:21 on Feb 25, 2017 |

Finally hit the "I am not doing this" wall. It's cold, raining, wind is coming in with no improvement expected and my legs hurt like hell. The relatives want to take me hiking up some mountains for 3 hours while I am moving penguin speed. With I consider inadequate gear where they should pack for a full day just in case. Makes me think of the time a hundred people here had to be rescued off a mountain with a proper road because they didn't think about the weather so they didn't reroute or cancel the race. gently caress that. And the aunt is literally telling me how to eat food like I haven't done it before. I actually felt a fleeting moment of anger. The UIL understood so we had a quick laugh at her. On the bus back home to see what else I can do for the day that doesn't involve killing my legs.

This is one of my least favorite things about living in Asia. People either telling you how to eat food, laughing at you for eating food "the wrong way" (which may or may not actually be true), or asking if you can eat rice/use chopsticks/grill meat/etc. The last one's only annoying until they act astonished that, yes, you are physically capable of ingesting rice. Also, if you see foreigners eating food at a Sichuan restaurant in a very non-metropolitan area of a fairly un-touristed city, and you ask them if they are teachers, and they say yes, please don't then ask them, "In China?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?" because jesus loving wept. I was thinking in terms that they are weekend warriors and maybe you should take more precautions since some of them were worried by a little bit of mud while ignoring the weather which were pretty cold by Hong Kong standards, it's wet with mist/rain, wind chill. I really don't like hiking anyway so I wasn't going to go with them anyway even if my legs aren't killing me. Face saving measures! But really hope they make it back in one piece only a little cold for their troubles. Fleta Mcgurn posted:This is one of my least favorite things about living in Asia. It was a sort of the straw that broke the camel's back moment as she points out blatantly obvious things all the time. I am not sure if it is just her or some Hong Kong thing. Grandma points things out as well as UIL, but they aren't going to point out things like "This is a restaurant, people go there to eat" or "These are street signs you can buy" or "Here are some arts and crafts" while I am looking directly at them. It really grinds you down made worse because she means well. UIL on the other hand is a near infinite fountain of knowledge about things to do and go to in Hong Kong. If there is something interesting he would know where and how to get you there if he couldn't take you himself. He pretty much nailed all the locations I had on my list to go to and then some. binge crotching posted:I love seeing these signs in HKG. You could probably ask enough of it to take a bath in the restaurant. It's so ridiculous that they charge you a couple dollars more for cold drinks.

Going through Zhuhai/Macau border into the mainland they had a bag scanning machine that was sometimes turned on, it seemed to be voluntary if you put your bag through it. One of the times going through I put my bag on the conveyor and got it when it came out the other side, there wasn't anyone manning the machine that I could see.

I'm gunna take a wild guess and say that they aren't particularly concerned about a white westerner, and that they'd scrutinise you much more closely if you were a Uighur. On the hot water thing, I thought that was for instant noodles? Pretty much every airport I saw in Asia there was no drinking water, only boiling hot water that people were using to cook their instant noodles.

Today I saw a chinese couple at a huge mall im Berlin, with the guy carrying multiple shopping bags. His gf went to the bathroom and he just kinda did that long sigh you do when you've been shopping for ages and finally get a quiet moment. I chucked and a bit and rolled my eyes at him and he laughed and we shared a brief moment together without saying a word. Well that's my chinar story for today, god bless.
