I saw there were like 120 new posts in this thread and thought maybe a new branch of conversation had opened up, but was disappointed to see that most of the new posts were RTS fans loudly counting matchsticks.

To add on to this, early access rules and I don't get why people complain about it so much unless they somehow don't know what they're getting in to despite Steam putting a giant warning on all of them. I got Ark on sale for $20 and played it for about 80 hours. That's a hell of a lot more than most $30+ completed games I've bought. I don't really care that it will never be finished or get optimized because I got my money's worth and I'll probably never touch it again. Games like Rimworld and 20XX are great because when I get bored of them I just play something else for a couple months and when I get the urge to pick them up again now they have a bunch of new features to mess around with. Hell even sometimes you get a miracle like Broforce that actually makes it to a final release. Basically just play the poo poo with really good reviews.

Skeleton Necromancers and everyone proud of playing them in Diablo 2, like you are all some kind of legendary geniuses for figuring out that you can just keep adding points to skeletons, are dumb and they had no utility past taking casuals through the normal game once.  but if you min max the right runes then skelemancers You and your builds are the worst in what is one of the greatest games of all time.

The Baldur's Gate / Icewind Dale series are both far superior in gameplay, character development and atmosphere to anything named Elder Scrolls / Witcher / Dragon Age etc

The Binding of Isaac is a bullet hell game for literal children and the only reason people love it so much is because it is so easy. When comparing it to games that actually take skill and reflexes like Enter The Gungeon everyone always mentions how Isaac swamps you in overpowered upgrades making almost all of your runs successful, which appeals to the game's fans since it's basically a reward response generator where you just turn on the game and prepare to be told you are an amazing player because of the amazing run you just did, conveniently ignoring that it's so simple a literal infant could beat it by mashing the controller. Good job player!!! Would you like to do a good job again?!? And again!?!? Such a good player!

Here's a weird video game opinion: Arena dueling in Diablo2 1.09 in leagues like 76 Legit was an incredible emergent gameplay element, and incredibly fun - and deserves to be its own genre. Ultima Online T2A era instahit rules dueling was then, and remains to this day, the best 1v1 dueling in any game. Not just for skill ceiling, but artistry. When I was playing a lot, I could ID a prominent player by their fighting style easily, even with a limited viable skill/spell pool.

Diablo 2 has only one good build, the fire and ice sorceress. Everything else has some combination of requires way too much gear to deal adequate damage, can't deal with immunities, bad mobility, bad survival, general awkwardness to actually use etc. Play Diablo 2 once as a sorceress and then shelve it forever because nothing else will be remotely as good without a ton of grinding.

Low-Key unpopular Opinion: Halo was/is a cancer on the FPS genre and specifically weapon limits//regenerating health shields just loving stonewalled game design for 5-10 years. The storyline looped back and forth between cool & trash so many times that even diehard fans concede it got stupid and bad, and despite being a game about fighting monsters in outer space, all the weapons are just purple//black versions of earth guns. Like, the needler is just a SMG etc... Afterwards every FPS game has needed vehicles and shields and it got to the point where I just couldnt tell shooters accept the Last of us Multi A second unpopular opinion is that the Last of Us Multi is the most fun i have ever had playing a multiplayer game not made by blizzard, and i think it does group dynamics better than most team deathmatch games even come close to.

Starcraft was great when I was a child because oh wow the human buildings can fly and the alien guys can bury themselves underground and surprise people! Adult me just likes the music. e: oh we've moved onto diablo now....uhhh unpopular opinions uhhh.... it was fun like 10 years ago and there was nothing about Diablo 3 that looks interesting besides updated graphics and effects. The cosmetic/fashion aspect of modern games is more enjoyable than the copy pasted gameplay of every AAA cover shooter/fantasy game/whatever, it doesn't matter how poo poo I am or how average the gameplay is when I look better than all of my e-friends.

Red alert 2 is so good its ridiculous. Yuris revenge is good too. Fun multiplayer even though yuri was pretty broken iirc. Of cpurse i was 11 and didn't care about metas and being good
