Absolutely, but not as bad as their steel nibs, and definitely not as bad as the in-house tubular nibs.

NeurosisHead posted:I feel like I've seen and experienced this problem with their steel nibbed pens (Rembrandt, Michelangelo, etc.), but haven't heard of it as much with the palladium nibs. Do they also have the same QC problems? Oh boy, can they ever. I recently lost the Visconti nib lottery in a big way. I asked the guys at Appointments to get a Divina Metropolitan in for me, in grey, with a medium nib and the thing just would not consistently write, on any paper, with any ink. A nice wet line, but so inconsistent as to be frustrating. We sent it off to Mike Masuyama twice and it just wouldn't act right. Doug ended up ordering a replacement pen for me -- this time with a broad point -- and that one works gorgeously. It took from late October until early January, but I finally feel like the pen was worth the purchase. Appointments couldn't have been better about the whole thing -- they paid for shipping and Mike's work and all of that. They just wanted me to be happy with it -- and I really wanted to love the pen, given how damned expensive it was. I've had pretty good luck with my other Viscontis -- even the Rainbow, which has one of those tubular steel nibs. This one, however, was a nightmare. A glamor shot with my Wall Street:

MY JOURNAL FROM MUSUBI CAME IN!!! Thank you for the oportunity to try one of these, Kessel. Here are some quick shots I took with my Pixel. This journal is SO LIGHT thanks to the Tomoe River paper. It stays open easily. The binding is perfect. The fabric has an incredibly premium hand. The whole thing feels so solid, so well-put together. It really does feel like a $100USD product. The attention to detail on these is second-to-none. Maybe it will please your artisans to know a stranger on the internet appreciates their hard work. I'll come back in a couple of weeks with some in-use shots showing off fountain pen ink when I've had a good chance to use it with a few different pen/ink combos. I'm so excited!

Is there a goon pen pal or letter writing club thing? I would like to exchange written letters with some people. My friend and I send each other letters regularly but we also talk every day so we don't have a lot to write about except to show off inks to each other.

That's one of the things that bugs me about using national carriers - some are great and some can sit on a package for a bit too long. For countries where the national carrier is legendarily lovely (here's looking at you, Italy) I might just offer people a more expensive shipping option (UPS?) to help them get around any delays. What would be best for shipments to Australia?

Got a 7 pack of Pilot Varsity pens for my 3/5/8 year olds, they loved writing / drawing with them. Going to make sure they don't have money for drugs later in life I guess. The 3&5 year old were jealous that my 8 year old had gotten a Bulow that I got as an extra from XFP (Now Birmingham pens) because the first one I got had a dented cap (they sent me a new pen, and new cap instead of just a cap) My pen collection grew on valentines day with a new Jinhao shimmering sands (Was Starry night) and a noodlers flex nib, as well as some Oster Orange (Which is an amazing orange) edit: also got a pen case with some slots that can't be filled right now.. My dream pen is the Starry Night Visconti, I've heard issues about Visconti stainless nibs not being good out of the box, lets say that it's a 1 year anniversary present for me, how do I fix it?

I always get journal-paralysis. Like even if I had anything important enough to put in a book that fancy, I'd spell something wrong or smudge it and it'd be ruined. I pathologically use books with loose-leaf or spiral so I can erase my shameful mistakes.

I'd recommend 68 if you hate, hate, hate the crinkly feeling you get from 52. but if it doesn't bother you then I feel it makes little difference.

What do you guys do with inks and pens you don't use? I have kind of an OCD collector mentality so I'm trying to be conservative with which pens and inks I keep and use, but I'm relatively new to the hobby and I'm still kind of finding my tastes, so I have a few ink bottles that sounded cool at the time and I ended up not liking as much, or that have kind of limited use.

Display them all of course. Amazon is great for cheap pen displays. I like the plastic clear half circle ones because you can connect two to make a circle of 24 pens. I only have 36 pens though so I have a full circle and a half circle....clearly I need 12 more pens to make two full circles...right? Right??

The pens that are inked up and being used are in a test tube rack on my desk, ink is in a shelf. Unused pens are in a couple of cases in my closet. I have far, far too many pens to display them all.

I have a little set of drawers for pens and ink. On top are pens waiting to be flushed and a rack of ink samples. The top drawer is pens currently inked, a storage box of ink cartridges, and empty pen rolls and cases. The next drawer down is the uninked pens, all in rolls, and a box full of converters, sorted by type into Ziploc bags. The next drawer is paper, paper and more paper. The bottom drawer is ink. (I hate how the ink is arranged right now, and desperately want to re-do that drawer; I'm also looking at getting a shallow paperback-style bookshelf to use for ink instead.) I was recently at an antiques store where they wanted just a little bit too much for a machinist's wooden tool chest, and wouldn't budge. When I went back it was gone. Sigh.

How many pens do you all keep inked at a time! ? I was trying to keep mine all inked but then I started playing favorites and I only have like 10 inked up. And not even all different colors...playing favorites with the inks too. Also what inks are you using the most? I need more... I have been using Emerald of Chivor, Yu-Yake and Poissier de Lune a lot. Also all three of the blue Diamene 150th Anniversary inks - the blue black is really good and if I need a "normal" ink I will use that. Noodler's Red Black has also been used more lately, not sure why I like it more all of the sudden.

I try to keep ten pens inked since that's all that will fit in my case, but usually ink up a few more since there's so many inks to choose from. At the moment I have pens inked with: kon-peki, asa-gao, de atramentis petrol, Edelstein Aventurine, Akkerman #19, Bung Box sapphire, cherry blossom, imperial purple, and sunset of Omaezaki, sailor jentle irori, and of course heart of darkness. The Kon-Peki and HoD are permanent fixtures since I'm trying to empty the bottles. Up next in the rotation will probably be Piano Mahogany, Ancient Copper, and a few samples.

I currently have: A white Safari with Borealis Black, a Vista with Upper Ganges Blue, a copper orange Al-Star with Noodler's Habanero, a ruby red Al-Star with Black Swan in English Roses, an ocean blue Al-Star with Navajo Turquoise (and sometimes Kon-Peki), A silver Pilot Metropolitan with Bad Belted Kingfisher, A Jinhao 750 with American Aristocracy (very much a concord wine color), A TWSBI Eco in white with Ku-Jaku, Some kind of Hero pen with Shin-Ryoku, And a demonstrator Ahab that I put Lie de The in but I must have been lazy about cleaning some Navajo Turquoise out of it because it comes out looking like a very dark army-fatigues green with excellent shading that I wish I could duplicate. I also put Apache Sunset in it sometimes, which looks excellent from a flex nib.
