Basically sounds to me like calling Shaq a money-motivated sell-out clown with no self-respect.

This is bullshit, shaq is an entertainer, and the segment is inherently mean, like all highlight reels, there is always a victim. Dressing up, being silly is part of his job, the league needs kids to get invested for the future also?

No doubt shaq is a child, he is extremely insecure, so I get how he takes things. He could be a more well rounded person, but he became one of the greatest center of all time instead, and he's not commiting crimes. He also gives money away to fam. He was also run out of town by Kobe and the Lakers, who blitz us with the narrative that he was fat and lazy, and somehow his career could have be more than taking 3 different team to the NBA finals, humbling GOAT, MJ. He also pioneered social media for us, but we're too cool now or whatever. Dokmo had it right, we shaped him, can't abandon our baby now!

KD is the thirsty one, the calling out Cuban last year, and this javale thing makes it clear.

A strategy named after shaq was prevalent enough to make the NBA change the rules just last year. That is real legacy KD. We all die in the dirt, kids learn that eventually too, man what an rear end in a top hat.

PJ is great. Like imagine if Derek Fisher could play four positions.

I don't blame Watson for playing him instead of Bender.

Here's the problem I have with that. JaVale called him a coon...three years ago? Four years ago? That was back when Shaq was still just giving him poo poo for doing stupid crap on the court on a weekly basis. So no, it wasn't for insulting JaVale's intelligence, but you can believe that once he threw that insult out that he pretty much gave Shaq a reason to treat him like poo poo for the rest of his career.

I can imagine that if you're a black man - no matter how successful you are - and someone calls you a coon and compares you to someone in blackface you're not going to just let that poo poo go.

Ooo there's a lot of interesting stuff in here.

-- I don't think anyone in this forum is gonna argue that Peak Shaq wasn't one of the greatest centers of all time, that's completely true. JaVale will never be in the same realm of player, it's distinct but somewhat irrelevant to the current issue?
-- the "he donates money" thing never feels quite right to me as a character defense for the rich when the amount donated is such a small percentage of one's income that it doesn't make any appreciable difference in lifestyle whatsoever. Here's a classic Reddit thread from 2013ish where everyone is talking about what a classy and upstanding dude Aaron Hernandez is because he gave part of his check to the office charity: https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/yxrvb/aaron_hernandez_gives_50k_of_his_new_extension_to/
-- You use "us" twice in there. Who's 'us' and what do you mean "pioneered social media"?
-- "he's not committing crimes" is very lawyerly, and I mean that in the way that highlights what people don't like about lawyers. There's a jillion million billion things you can do in this life which are both perfectly legal yet extremely hosed up and/or cruel. There's also a ton of poo poo (I'm thinkin' drug laws) that is highly illegal morally harmless. Morality and legality don't align 1:1 and you'd honestly have to be a very odd American to possess an internal moral system in which they do. Committing crimes isn't the issue, we're just talking about who's being a dick.
-- and with that said, Shaq arguably did commit some crimes, as covered with the seizure-beating and child-porn-planting addressed in posts in the last few pages. I don't think this has much direct bearing on this argument, it's just a sort of, I don't know, character witness type argument. Shaq's been an awful dude for a long time.

I don't really think of this as a broad political issue, more like a dust-up between two dudes (neither of whom I know personally) and I'm siding with the one I figure I like more. Dejan gave me one of the best descriptors of Shaq that I know of, Shaq's the dude in your classroom who tells an obvious unfunny joke then yells it two or three more times when nobody's laughing. He has a bullying instinct and JaVale called him on it. Very very entertaining.

Dexo posted:

Yeah...for acting like an idiot on the court. That's all that it was for at the time. I mean...the guy was so loving dumb when he was on the Wizards that there were multiple times where John Wall wanted to strangle him. He consistently did really dumb poo poo, and it got highlighted. It's really not that complex. He chose to react to it by referring to Shaq or Shaqtin a Fool or whatever with a term that's equivalent to Uncle Tom or friend of the family or Porch Monkey.

You say that about a Hall of Famer - and Hall of Fame athletes are incredibly competitive people by default - and they're not going to forget it.
