Holy gently caress cancelling on the WHCD was a mistake. Couldn't whoever owns FOX News use this information to manipulate the President's public position? Have a segment like: "In other news, (Whatever) has pledged to hire more Americans, in contrast to firms such as (Rival) who use Obama's visa loopholes to hire foreign workers." He'd then tweet: "Wow! Only (Whatever) cares about American workers. Unlike Obamas pals (Rival). Sad!" Their stock goes up, other guy's goes down.

He doesn't have as much direct electoral experience as Ellison, but he does have more credentials in running a large bureaucratic organization. In reality, there's not a lot of daylight between Ellison and Perez's policy positions, and with Ellison getting appointed Deputy Chair both voices are going to be represented in the party leadership. It remains to be seen how effective Perez will be at actually rebuilding the party, but if he can actually get the Democrats back on the right foot and start winning elections that's really all that matters.

Perez seems like a good guy but it's an electoral operational role and he doesn't have experience there, and all the establishment losers who are happy to lose elections as long as they get to keep their speaker fees support him, so this sure doesn't seem great for the party. The democratic party overall is not acting like an organization in crisis, and it is. Their electoral collapse would be stunning in any time period, and it is absolutely incredible that it's happened in a time when the country has moved left on many issues, and when a popular democratic president was in charge.

Really though, the fact that the two are friends and Perez immediately made Ellison Deputy Chair gives me hope that the two will be able to work closely to help jump-start the reinvigoration of state and local parties the Democrats desperately need.
