Any job series can get a COR cert. There are 1 week class courses or you can do it all online.

I mean... I wouldn't want to be a COR. There's a lot of responsibility and liability if you gently caress up.

If you work with contractors in any way, I'd still get the cert for the info. Even if you're not the COR, you can still get in trouble for stuff like unauthorized scope changes. Just don't tell your boss you got the cert.

Agreed. I was a COR for a while and it didn't really seem that bad. It was a lot more cut and dry than a lot of the engineering paperwork I had to sign off and you're just as screwed if you mess that up. If anything people who didn't take the training were way more likely to get themselves in trouble.

So, I joined the CCC instead of taking up an offer for two USFS interviews (for temporary and low paying GS-04 jobs). When/if I go looking for USFS/NPS/BLM work in a year or two, will the fact that I declined the interviews follow me around? provided those agencies still exist in a year or two and haven't been so neutered/bankrupted

Generally land management guys don't care a bit. That being said, temporary positions are the gateway to perm positions in those agencies. A good chunk of their perms spent at least a few seasons as a temp of some sort.

We got word that a few of our subagency's common positions had been exempted from the hiring freeze by DHS; it makes me wonder whether this is the beginning of the dam bursting and them giving up or whether DHS just has more latitude than some agencies in declaring its employees important enough to keep hiring (possibly both).

So, I've been offered the Immigration Service Officer 1 position at the Potomac Service Center. Does anyone have any current details of OT and telework? I'm looking at taking a pay cut to take advantage of that sweet, sweet, telework.

So shot in the dark, but I'm a pharmacist desperately trying to get out of the hellish retail field and I've heard mumblings about international pharmacy through the military or through agencies that hire pharmacists for federal work/bases and whatnot. Does anyone know anything about that? I feel pretty lost trying to look for info on it and it really seems like the kind of thing that requires insider knowledge to not be screwed over.

I think you could probably go work for the VA in the city of your choice. Searching pharmacist on USAjobs brings up like 150 results. Don't know if the pay is what you're looking for, though.

The VA is one route but they don't have any openings in my state. Supposedly we're opening another VA in New Orleans but good luck getting into a hospital that doesn't exist yet without connections.

Is the status of my application a good barometer for how the hiring process is progressing? Could they potentially hire someone without my application ever moving past "received"? Applying for a job with the Park Service, if it matters.

Baronash posted:Is the status of my application a good barometer for how the hiring process is progressing? Could they potentially hire someone without my application ever moving past "received"? It will depend on the agency's HR folks, but generally no. I've been in my current position for over 6 months and the status hasn't updated from referred since the initial notice of results in March of 2015.

Welp even though HR confirmed we can still internally promote, our agency's jobs board on USAJOBS.gov slowly declined and has been blank for a couple weeks now. I better hope that one of the promotions I applied for last year come through! Everytime I ask HR about them the answer is "they should be making the decision within the next two weeks." I'll believe it when I see it.

I was initially denied for my job! It seems to be very very dependent on local HR, and usajobs is at best a rough barometer

Is it bad to alter your resume when applying for multiple positions at the same place? My first application is still in limbo, but a similar position appeared in the last couple days. I would like to tailor my resume to support what is on the questionnaire they give me, something I didn't do last time because I didn't know about the questionnaire until after my resume was submitted. Would it be looked at negatively if my resume was significantly different than the one I submitted previously? I'm not lying about anything I have done. There are just duties I've had in the past that I realized I should put more focus on.

Baronash posted:Is it bad to alter your resume when applying for multiple positions at the same place? It's never a bad idea to tailor your resume to specific positions, many places expect candidates to do that for different jobs. They also expect resumes to get better as candidates gain experience from applying. And all that being said, the same person may never get a look at two of your resumes anyway. Just don't get too creative, make sure you can support everything you put down.

Hah. I had the feeling that meeting was going to be atrocious as soon as they scheduled it to start when most workers' shifts would be ending or almost over. Somehow I doubt he addressed the question one of my co-workers sent in, citing the specific sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act clarifying that [USCIS'] funding cannot be used by [ICE or CBP], and asking for assurance that the administration had every intention of following the law.
