My one complaint about Jacqueline Pierce in the War Doctor was that she sounded more like Servalan than she did as Servalan in the BF audios I've heard with her. Not that have any issue with her performance in WD per se, but more it makes me ask "why couldn't she find that voice for the BF B7 audios"? :colbert:

Maybe I'm misreading too much into a blurry shifting image that lasts barely a second... but is there a really OLD school Cyberman in there as well?

Haha no just looked again outside of full-screen and it's just there's a Dalek behind them I mistook for a headpiece

You might not have noticed but they had a bit of extra time to prepare than normal in 2016.

Yeah but they did this before, in series 6. There is precedent.

Edit: and then they did it again in series 7, but split it between 2 years.

There's also precedent for the show starting in Spring and not having a break, such as every series before series 6.

Oh wow you are right. I kind of got used to thinking September for some reason. In my own defense, I will state that I came into the show only one season before the Tennant specials only season. It has pretty much always been a mess since I started watching on or around air date.

Yeah, my favourite thing about the return of the Spring air date for this series is probably the Christmas trailer. They used to do thiem all the time and I have very fond memories of them.

I believe they're trying to get it back to normal (i.e. start in spring, runs 13 weeks, Christmas special, starts next spring).

Don't recognise most of these but perhaps I haven't been paying enough attention. Two cutout shots are clearer detail of the two in the bottom left from different frames.

E: And funnily enough the old Ice Warrior is the clearest but does not turn into the new one, the new just sort of erupts from behind them through the lightning and fog.

I dunno... sort of, but not quite? Bald man with something on his forehead, but it doesn't immediately scream Davros to me.

It was more apparent in the full video, and in the non widescreen one I was able to move it frame by frame. Plus the placement below the Dalek...

Jerusalem

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's Davros. When I first mistook the Dalek behind him as a Cyberman headpiece I thought it might have been an old-school Tenth Planet style Cyberman, but once I realized the Dalek was there I pretty much assumed it was Davros.

So, center row, far right (beside Probably Davros)... I'm guessing it's meant to be a Weeping Angel, but does that face make anyone else think of the human forms of the Axons instead?

I really hope they don't try to make the new Ice Warrior a sexy lady like they did with the Silurians. I get this weird feeling that's a woman and Moffat doesn't have the best track record in that regard

You can go frame by frame with , and . on YouTube.

I wouldn't put to much stock on the placement, in the animation they move separately, and something had to go there. Honestly it made me think more of the Ninth Doctor.

Well, it's a Gatiss script for the Ice Warriors episode.

Centre right is apparently a wooden woman from the David Suchet episode. My first thought was that it was Silver Nemesis. :toot:

Wow, that sounds great because I'm loving Jago and Litefoot these days, but no Tennant no deal IMO. :(

I'd take this as a huge indicator that BF has given up on having him back for the foreseeable future.

I don't think a short trip has been read by a Doctor actor since the big 8 story box set releases

Oh I know it's the format, I just don't think they'd waste a "Jago and Litefoot meet the X Doctor" story on a Short Trip or Companion Chronicle if there was a shot at getting a Doctor actor.

They're doing Short Trips set during the Time War where Eight encounters Nyssa and Susan. They could've done those as full cast, but didn't. Briggs set the only hold up is Tennant is adamant about recording with everyone together. He even said recently that he visited Tennant while he was filming Broadchurch Series 3 to talk about it. Tennant doesn't want to record separately, so it's about getting the schedules with him and, presumably, Catherine Tate, to sync up. BF said it took over a year to line up everything just to record the first set.

Hopefully that means he's down for more then. I think it was in this thread it was said Tennant had only done those 3 as a favour to Briggs.

I did see that in this thread recently, but I don't know where it came from. The extras on the Tenth Doctor Adventures set basically said the opposite, that Tennant was pretty much asking for the chance to do it before Big Finish even had the license for the new series.

Granted, the official extras are always going to put a positive spin on things, but if he really wasn't enthusiastic about the whole thing, I don't think they would go quite so far out there in the spin.

Yeah, over on the Not Big Finish Forums they are adamant that Tennant only did it as a favor to Briggs and he has no interest in doing it again and if you, as a fan, want him to then you are a horrible monster because he has his own life and his own career and a family to feed and HOW DARE YOU be so demanding you obsessive fan!

So if Briggs is still talking to him about more that's the best news I've heard in awhile. I don't mind if it's not coming for a year or so, as long as it's in the works and not on indefinite hold.

Started listening to the final War Doctor set and from listening to the first story it looks like yet another mediocre release. I had high hopes after hearing the second box set, especially because it had two great stories that were more than just bog standard Dalek plots ('Legion of the Lost' and 'The Neverwhen'), but the first and third box sets were as dull as dishwater. Feels like a shame to have wasted the talents of John Hurt and the character of the War Doctor on some continuity wank.

More generally I feel like there's been a decline in quality for Big Finish, which probably isn't helped by the fact that they seem to only have about 5 different writers now - there's only so many times I can listen to John Dorney, Matt Fitton or Nick Briggs scripts (as good as Dorney can be sometimes). I realise that their early stuff had massive amounts of garbage too but outside of Doom Coalition 3 and Diary of River Song 1 nothing has really impressed me recently, whereas all of the best Big Finish is from the early years. Maybe it's because all the good writers get paid actual money now to write for TV or prose? Maybe i'm just burnt out on the whole thing.

e: On a similar note what's up with the weirdos on those awful Doctor Who forums who claim to only listen to Big Finish instead of watching the new series? I understand being critical about Steven Moffat as a showrunner but at least there's less obsessive continuity porn on TV.
