Yea I saw that. I expect booster boxes of awakening to be at $300 in April. Kind of wish i'd held onto mine.

I don't expect singles to get much higher than what they are though. For some reason people would rather pay more for a blind booster box then the singles from a booster box. People can be weird. The only singles I expect to get higher would be Sith Holocron, Holdout Blaster and Jetpack. I think the two best decks going into worlds would be the Force Villain deck and the Jango/Bala-tik variant decks.

This is exactly why Game of Thrones didn't take off here. Even though it was a great game and everyone I demoed it to loved it, everyone said no sir when they found out there weren't randomized booster packs to buy. It's also why, even though there are enough singles in my LGS's showcase to make at least three complete decks, everyone just looks at them, frowns, and laments that they can't play because the store doesn't have any packs.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger and buy two Force Chokes, two Kylo's Saber, and another Vader.

I wonder how the total print runs of SoR and Awakenings will compare. I think that'd be flagrantly stupid in modern times, and I don't see any indication that they're planning it. If they do that, I'd expect a rapid adoption of a tournament standard that simply doesn't allow Awakenings cards (accompanied by an announcement of a future rotation schedule). I think that'd also be way less good than just printing more Awakenings, but if they simply can't fit more into the production schedule, it'd be a solution.

But I don't expect them to power creep significantly enough that the top Awakenings cards stop being critical to decks, so the growth of tournaments will absolutely be stunted if they let them go the way of early Magic sets without rotating them out quickly.

The facebook SW Destiny marketplace that I sold some boxes through has been a fun place this morning. A guy posted a picture of a full case of 6 boxes, asking for $1,200 for the lot. Then a handful of people had MELTDOWNS and at least one guy got banned.

I had a box of what I thought was empty wrappers in my car. Turns out there were three packs still in them! I'm giving out one tonight at random at my Destiny tournament to try to bribe people to come out and play. People have decks, they just don't play because there's no packs.

The tournament's in Selden, NY, so if anyone's around there, ask me for more information.

$1200 isn't even much of a bulk discount though. You'd think you'd get a bit knocked off for buying all of them at once.

Are people just choosing to ignore reality when it comes to prices? Everyone can go to Ebay and search for themselves. Boxes are $200 at least and are only going to rise (though I think the cap is coming up soon, at some point people just won't pay. That point is probably at about $220-$230). There is something to be said with purchasing on Ebay and getting a buyer guarantee, which you don't necessarily have on Facebook.

I agree, that probably isn't the right price for almost anyone. Guy *might* have sold them one by one at $200/ea eventually, but there's probably nobody willing to pay $200/box who is also looking for 6 boxes.

Freaking western Long Island, man. All the stores down there are at least 40 minutes away from me, but it's where all the gaming happens that isn't the top tier of games (your Magic, Pokemon, Warhammer 40k, etc.). I went there tonight to play some Destiny, and there were nine players while I struggle to get more than two people besides myself to show up. I brought Han/Rey because I figured it was tier 2-ish enough and expected lots of Vader and Jango. Apparently everyone had similar thoughts, because there wasn't a single Jango (that I remember seeing). I went 3-1, with my only loss to a mirror match where my opponent looped Second Chances better than I could. Action economy and being able to claim to get that Second Chance back is the only thing that matters in that mirror match.

There were only four rounds, and the top two got prizes in store credit. I thought both the top two were 4-0, but that can't happen with nine players, right? Must've been a 4-0 and a 3-1 who got second on breakers. It sucks that I didn't get anything for 3-1, but at least it was valuable tournament experience.

You literally can't pick up the game unless you want to pay insane prices. There is zero stock of stuff, and not because of it being a huge game. They made so little of it and can't produce more in a timely manner, so the scene is small and stagnant. Play online or print a proxy set. The game is good but FFG sucks at production.

It's a very good strategy game. As long as they are careful about balance, power creep and production runs, it will be around for some time to come. It is their flagship CCG and is based on Star Wars. Lots of things about it just work.

Yeah, he does drop fast. His dice are so solid and his ability is good enough that he really scares people. I rarely expect him to survive attacking more than two or three times. Maybe hard mulligan for force training and try to use that to get some shields out early? Or go for dug in?

Yeah, we had Dug In, Isolation, and Hidden in Shadow in the deck but he still got murked. Hidden in Shadow is probably too slow. I think I might try Personal Escort

It's still tough. The deck is kinda slow to get control out. I usually just accept that greivous is dead, and try to get him to do as much damage as possible on the way out.

It did a little better today. The Personal Escorts help, I think, but probably just as important has been just ruthlessly overriding upgrades into Mind Probe.

Unrelated, I wonder if they'll eventually give cards action abilities or trigger effects that could be paid for with resources or maybe dice. I think Lukas mentioned that there might be cards like that in SoR. Looking at Olivia Voldaren in another thread, it made me think about how early Magic cards looked compared to the cards of today, and what a card like that would look like in destiny down the road.

There are definitely cards in the new set with alternative triggers. There is a blue support that blanks dice when you roll a shield or a yellow upgrade that adds a shield when someone resolves a ranged dice. Interesting alternate triggers with more complex timing interactions. Should be good.

When did Awakenings officially release again? My bet is SoR releases 4 months out from that. I think they will try to have a more consistent schedule with these releases since they have a film schedule to work around and they probably want to avoid the delays that they had with aGoT 2 (and conquest). AGoT totally died around here during the big delay between core sets at gen con and the first expansion

edit: according to this thing, it was end of November: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2016/10/3/embrace-your-destiny/

So yeah, end of March makes sense.

They are suppose to be announcing something this week and it probably is the SoR release date. My LGS has been doing preorders for awhile though, so that bit about opening them up a month before release isn't exactly true. They've had their orders in with their distributors for awhile now, just with no release date.

Being in March kind of fits with the restock of starters planned for March. End of March could work and if not then, end of April. I still have access to my work email and nothing in there about it on todays solicits.

One final print run of Awakenings arriving in June. Then no more, ever. A new core set is coming at the end of the year. All expansions will be one printing and then nothing.

People on the Facebook groups are flipping their collective shits over the news. A core set rotation is par for the course in CCGs, but many Destiny players don't have a CCG background. It's possible the one printing of expansions might be enough, but then again this is Fantasy Flight we're talking about here. Annual core sets to rotate out bad cards and reprint the ones they want to keep in the game is a smart move.

Because it is. I've been trying to buy product for this game since it came out and have only managed to get the starter sets.

If the availability of the future print runs is anything like it's been, I don't see this game thriving at all. Secondary prices will sky rocket and lock new people (IE kids) out of getting into the game. The base set reprint every year is great and all, but that's once a year and what if you can't get any product from the newly-only-one-print-run expansions?

Nothing about this sounds good for growing the game other than secondary market prices which FFG doesn't make money on...

I'm trying to be optimistic, but if Spirit of Rebellion sounds like it's not going to be in stores, I'm going to sell any boxes I preordered when the price spikes and then enjoy Awakenings as its own game or build a cube or something, I don't know. I must be skipping over it. Where does it say there is a set rotation? I just see they will print a new core set along with new expansions after a year, not that the old core set or expansions rotate out.

Edit: To clarify, i'm asking if they say in there that the old core set and expansions will no longer be tournament legal. I understand the print runs rotating out, but will the older stuff not be playable?

Edit 2: Also, it says SoR in May. Skipped over that until a reread.

Have they commented specifically yet about what's legal to play? I don't think they have said anything regarding that yet, just availability of cards.

I wonder how many boxes of Spirit of Rebellion will be printed in comparison to Awakenings. I'm still getting flashbacks to early magic here. Wish this game wasn't a ccg!

"Base set" usually has that meaning in TCGs, so I'm making a logical assumption there. They'll probably have formats, because some people are waiting until June for Awakenings and then the new core set is (in theory) replacing it in November/December, six months later. It would be smart for them to reprint a lot of Awakenings in the new core set to make sure people can keep playing with those cards, also.

The one-print-run situation is FFG trying to mask the fact that their printing capacities are much smaller than what Wizards of the Coast has. They know they can't print two sets at once, so to get expansions out at reasonable rate, they have to run the next set before the printing press even cools down from churning out Spirit of the Rebellion dice and cards.
