To be fair, it's also disturbing that we're looking forward to killing hundreds of sentient beings and feeling nothing for their deaths except pride at how efficiently and creatively we do it.

Am I the only one who is just anxiously awaiting the chance to dress up my little space Ken doll and decorate his dream space apartment and car?

I'm here to play space Barbie Mary Sue and I'm gonna vanguard into someone's face and dump my laser shotgun into them but not before I choose a borderline rapey renegade sex option with an alien or mentally ill human named Jack.

Then I talk to my head scientist that's like lol yeah I know we sort of genocided lizardfrogmen and then I'll chose the Paragon option of making him feel better for doing so.

Then I'll say The Reapers.

I've always liked Bioware romances for the stuff that happens after the godawful sex scene - the other party members teasing you, the heartfelt goodbyes, the sense of an actual connection between your video game people. Likewise when people praise the romance in the Witcher 3 I'm pretty sure it's for the fact that Geralt and Yennefer behave like actual human beings in a relationship rather than for the fact that the sex cutscenes are marginally better animated.

So having the devs fall over themselves to tell us how sexy these Fully Nude mannequin humping scenes are gonna be doesn't fill me with confidence about their priorities

Kubo was gorgeous and felt like it had a really good saturday morning cartoon level of writing which kinda petered out near the end.

It was enjoyable, but the only memorable thing was how great it looked. And aside from maybe two songs, I really couldn't get on board with Moana.. god it felt so by the books.I'm glad it didn't win (anything).

i dunno man in this day in age i've seen otherwise normal people and even people who don't play videogames going crazy go nuts over the relationships in bioware rpgs to the exclusion of just about everything else, kind of how there's an entire community of overwatch fan artists who've never even installed the game (or even know that there is one?). i think bioware prioritizing hot alien jimmy rustling in their mass effect is just them following the money.

That's the thing though, I've always assumed most of that obsession is down to the character writing rather than the poorly animated jimmy rustling itself. Maybe I'm just being naive.

I mean, yeah obviously. No one's confused at WHY they're doing it.

But at the same time I don't really blame anyone for finding the lovely romances in Bioware games to be kind of distasteful both for the actual content of the romances and the level of emphasis they get.

I still think Andromeda is going to be a good game but listening to their devs talk still makes me think how glad I am they aren't the only people making RPGs out there because god drat their writers do not have their priorities straight as a rule.
