Monty doesn't get mentioned a lot, but I wanted to say thanks for posting it. I think it's my un-ironic favorite of the currently running US strips. The characters are all dorks without being cringe-worthy and the humor is sort of lame but charming. It's like Piranha Club done right.

Thanks for saying so. You should send a note to the artist, I'm sure it will brighten up his day. Sorry I post in fits and spurts, but that's just how it goes.

Anybody up for some 80’s comics? I sure am! I’ve got a couple of new old strips that I’m planning to start scanning and sharing with all y’all every whenever-I-feel-like-it. Are they good? I don’t know! I haven’t read them yet! Could be great, could be horrible. Let’s find out together, shall we?

First up, did you know Star Trek used to be a newspaper comic? It sure was! I’ve always been way more interested in Trek than Wars, so while it turns out that both franchises had newspaper strips, this is the only one I’m interested in reading or posting. The strip was published from 1979 to 1983, though the volume I’m working from only goes up to ‘81. It’s set in the Movie era, which is not my favorite era of OG Trek, but eh, whatevs. Apparently there was a Trek strip written in the swingin’ 60’s and while that would be interesting to see, let’s work with what we’ve got here. For any other introductory info you need, here’s some ad copy used back in the day to sell the strip to papers:

And now for the first storyline, which the collection has titled “Called Home.”

My next strip is actually the whole reason this post exists because as soon as I heard about this, I wanted to have it. There was actually a Masters of the Universe newspaper comic. That’s right, He-Man. The volume I have has little other information about it than that it lasted four years and it’s about He-Man. You want to know when these strips originally ran? You don’t deserve to know! Even the Forward mostly just establishes the archiver’s nerd creds and talks about what a pain in the rear end it was to collect these strips. Google? Pff. What’s that? I’m not going to put any more work into researching this thing than the book did. Let’s get down to business. Here’s the beginning of the first story, written by Jim Shull and drawn by Gerald Forton, “Day of the Comet.” (Also, curses! These pages are ever-so-slightly wider than my scanner, so the side of a couple of these things got snipped. I will take care to make sure this doesn’t happen with future scans. Shouldn’t mess up your ability to read today’s, though!)

There you have it! Let me know if the posting size and image quality is ok, or if there's anything (easy) I can do to improve either. If you do end up liking either of these strips, by the way, I highly recommend you pick up the collections. They’re both very nice and would look lovely on your coffee table.

It's a narrative device the tv show uses to lower costs by enabling them to fill multiple minutes per episode with a generic transformation scene to protect his loved ones, as usual. The key thing is that as a vehicle to sell toys the writers of He-Man didn't bother to have internal consistency Skeletor's goal has always been to assault Castle Greyskull and the Sorceress rather than the Royal Family - the episodes where he fucks with them happen because the writer for that episode assumes his "take over Eternia" goal is to assume kingship rather than ultimate magical power by breaching Greyskull fairly rarely.

I'm really interested to see how these go - off to a promising start with multiple Two Bad insults without a repeat!
