Land Rover adding the Velar finally has a vehicle that competes with the popular X3 / Q5 / GLC / F-Pace / Macan segment.

The Disco replaced the LR4 but drat, I guess you're right. Thought the Sport and the RR were one segment size down and that the Land Rovers would encroach on the Range Rovers but I suppose they're two different demographics.

The new discovery replaces the lr4. The LR4 was always called the discovery in other markets, there was just one car in that segment.

I stand corrected on the Discovery replacing the LR4, but Land Rover is just trying to cover all their bases in the luxury SUV segment and now should have all of their bases covered.

How the gently caress do you differentiate that many SUVs? Especially since the Land Rovers basically both look the same and so do the Range Rovers.

I love how that (and the Jag) look, but man, despite having a pretty healthy household income I just don't see myself plunking down anywhere near $96k for a 330HP wagon, let alone $154k for pretty much any car, and that's before Porsche's notoriously overpriced options. (I also don't see myself buying any more cars before building a suitable garage, so there's that investment, too.)

Oh I'm not crazy enough to buy one new. 2 years used though, :getin:

I hear you on the options though. My Cayman S stickered in the low 80s, picked it up in the mid 50s last fall with 13k miles on it, just under 2 years old. That's $2/mile.

The first gen Panamera is going to be the 996 of full size sedans. People on the forums will be complaining about the awful tailights for years.

You'll be able to pick up a turbo for $18k in a year or so and then hold it for another 5 until it becomes a classic.

Quick Carmax search, it's like still fifty grand for a base 2014 Panamera with 40k miles. I'll just drive yours so it doesn't just sit in a garage gathering dust while you walk to work.

I'd agree with you if Toyota hadn't started subscribing to the design school of pointless creases everywhere and headlights so large they're almost comical.

There's something to be said for understatement these days when it comes to car design and Jaguar are one of very few doing it.

Toyota's new design direction starting with the Prius is great, it's actually visually distinct in a sea of same-y looking poo poo.

People whine about it because it's different, but that's the point. The Prius, and soon Camry, look like future cars and make everything around them look old.

They also aren't aimed at Luddite car nerds.

To echo the others the Prius looks bad to me, where as the Lexus was questionable but is starting to grow on me. Perhaps the Prius is the same I don't know, but it certainly feels like it's going to look dated rather than classic when time marches on.
