Docked mode is probably hosed unless they start dialing back on cpu requirements in their games. Per digital foundry:

This is only a theory, but it does make sense based on the data available. Laying out the maths here, docking increases pixel count from 720p to 900p, a 56 per cent in resolution. However, memory bandwidth only rises by 20 per cent, from 1331MHz to 1600MHz. Bandwidth is shared between CPU and GPU, so the higher resolution in the home console mode may be sapping memory bandwidth away from the main processor cores, making us more prone to slowdown when the CPU is under load. Bandwidth concerns may also explain why resolution doesn't scale closer in line with the difference in clock-speeds (307.2MHz or 384MHz undocked, 768MHz docked). Suffice to say, if you're looking to play Breath of the Wild with minimal performance drops, running undocked is the way forward.

NA got weirdly screwed, not as many of the Indie games and didn't get the ACA NEO GEO games either.

Regarding the ACA NEOGEO games:

quote:

The ACA NEOGEO series has faithfully reproduced many classic NEOGEO masterpieces.

Players can change various game settings such as game difficulty, and also reproduce the atmosphere of arcade display settings at that time. Players can also compete against each other from all over the world with their high scores*.

So they have Online Leaderboards and a ton of settings, apparently.

I'm genuinely shocked at the ease of accessing foreign eShops and how they work on the Switch. Accessing my Japanese eShop account is so absurdly simple and all the news from both Canada and Japan is put onto my News so I can keep up with both stores easily without having to futz around on PS4 with signing in and out of accounts. The simple ability to hit the eShop button and tell the Switch I want it to look at my Japanese account is so handy! Why can't PS4 have this?!

Downloading that Puyo Puyo Tetris demo now. Pretty excited about it.

My switch doesn't work.

Zelda crashes and gives an error screen.

I called Nintendo and they answered right away, no hold at all (amazing!) and were super professional.

They led me to a menu where my error codes live. I had 4. not a single one was listed in their log of possible error codes, and they weren't even in the right format!

The person I was speaking to was surprised and upset by this. Where are these codes coming from? Why am I the only one to report them ever and why aren't they in Nintendo Tech Support's own listings? Who knows.

I can't exchange Zelda because it's a special edition and the game box is not the same and no one has special editions to swap out.

They want me to send the system and game in for repair.

I wiped the system and am reinstalling everything. Hopefully the system update was just corrupted or something.

I did get to play about an hour of Zelda and it was awesome :smith:

Ooooooor 720P doesn't use the full memory bandwidth even at 1333mhz. This is kinda stretching it honestly. RAM doesn't use a lot of power there's just not a lot of reason to really downclock it when the screen & CPU/GPU are going to be like 80% of the power usage while mobile given what I know of it's max watts vs how much such things typically use.

Edit: I'd want to hear this out of someone actually programing on the thing not some barely a nerd who can look at numbers and just start panicing.

About charging the thing: the console's power is rated at 15v 2.6a, which is what its charger outputs. Anything less than that will significantly increase charge time.

It's a straight Wii U port in which the design was based on less powerful hardware. There should really be zero issues with the Switch version at 900p. People should be more concerned about the Joycon's at this point. But throw that issue in with the Joycon desync issue, and docked seems pretty much borked for now.

I don't know if that really flies, though. It's the Nintendo Switch flag-ship launch title that's supposed to showcase the hardware, and frequent dips to 20 FPS doesn't seem like a mild drop.
