Lord Waffle Beard posted:It's funny that mark hunt had been on this tirade against steroid users then accepts a fight with one of the biggest steroid cheats of all time, then complains about it In an interview that someone posted Hunt said that his family is who suffers if he doesn't fight and get paid. I think that's a good enough reason to both take a fight and complain about steroid cheaters. Mark Hunt is right to speak out on what he thinks is wrong even if internet people don't like having to deal with the conversation.

So when people say its so unfair that Khabib isnt the champ, the UFC isnt a Real sport because he doesnt get constant title shots etc, might it have anything to do with the fact that any time he is matched up against an interesting style matchup or a big name that people actually want to see (Ferguson, Cerrone, others) he mysteriously drops out several times

It will be awhile until camps have realistic regimes down.

Lord Waffle Beard posted:Ever since the early weigh ins were instated there has been roughly 1 million more problems with people missing weight Yeah. I kinda think fighters should be allowed to opt-in or out of the earlier weigh-ins. Some fighters enjoy waking up near target weight and getting it all over with while some fat guys like Johny Hendricks need the extra couple hours they used to get. I mean they should try to get rid of weight cutting altogether, but if they won't do that, at least let some fighters have a choice.

Fighting 1.8 times a year like a lot of top guys do because they make good money and want decent fights with some off time is a lot different than accepting 3 fights a year and fighting 1.4 times a year like borat does.

That might be a good enough reason for Tony Ferguson to accept the match, but I don't blame him if he declines the offer. To clarify what Le Saboteur is talking about, apparently this isn't just a fighter calling out Tony on twitter; UFC is involved and trying to get the fight made.

The dude has a legit point about fighting people who constantly test positive, including the downright corrupt treatment Brock got in being allowed to compete with a no testing window before hand clause because he signed last minute special circumstances rule. Fairly certain the ufc doesn't have a stopwatch and a guy with a starters pistol signifying when you can start cutting weight. Johny and others could even start losing weight now if they wanted to for their next fight.

Eat This Glob posted:Fairly certain the ufc doesn't have a stopwatch and a guy with a starters pistol signifying when you can start cutting weight. Johny and others could even start losing weight now if they wanted to for their next fight. yes and no. they could lose weight now and make the actual weight cut easier, of course, but nobody is going to do that because we like seeing the most muscular guys we can punch each other. that's why we spend money on UFC. Nobody wants to see average body johny hendricks step into the octagon. Athletic commissions & UFC sort of do have a stopwatch and starter pistol when fighters begin cutting weight. usually it begins when they arrive in town for the fights a few days before the fight and speeds up as they closer to weigh-ins. The earlier deadline clearly fucks with a lot of dudes who used to use every available hour on the final day. There are simply fewer hours now to do the final part of the cut, which is a problem for a lot of guys out there.

Nobody wants to see average body johny hendricks step into the octagon. You could just start your water/sodium cycling 9 hours earlier, or arrive in Vegas 9 hours earlier, or start your camp 9 hours earlier. It's not that big of a deal, and lots of people missed weight before early weigh ins. Is there evidence to suggest a higher proportion of fighters are missing weight now, and can we decouple that from usada's increased controls?

Yeah early weigh ins doesnt really mess with the mechanics of the actual weight cut at all, as long as you arrive there a couple days before the fight you have plenty of time to do the actual water cut, the only issue is I'd imagine guys are trying to cut a little extra weight because they think they have more time to rehydrate
