I think the better question is why does it matter if any sitting congressman is seen with Russians? Did the world go insane? The problem isn't "congress is appearing to be influenced by Russia." The Problem is "The Russians influenced the executive election some how, a bunch of people in the executive that where installed by Trump have Overt ties to the Russian Government and a few have suspected ties, and some may even be innocent of having any ties, Trump himself was surrounded by people with ties to Russia during his election, and Trump has been talking about lifting sanctions and detente with Russia. The question is, is the executive branch compromised by Russia and if so how bad is it."

Don't get me wrong, I hope the IC leaks the contents of those meetings and it proves to be damning. But in TYOOL 2017 nobody loving cares if people on their team lied or misremembered or weren't "technically lying" because x/y/z happened in a non-official or different capacity.
