It's the same logic used in the excuses around the horsemeat scandal - "customers demand low prices for meat, so we had to". Translation: customers want food to be as cheap as possible, but don't really know what "possible" is (i.e. what's the lowest price a burger can be while still being 100% beef), so you cheated and sold them cheaper than possible, and people weren't able to go "hang on a minute, these burgers are cheaper than possible, I'm not touching them". I think my main point in this rambling is companies conflate "demand" (if it exists, it sells) with "demanding" (if it doesn't exist, people will write in and complain) .

I always thought horse would be more expensive than beef because it's a 'fringe' meat like venison. When I googled it, all the organic results were about the 2013 scandal, and all the paid results were specialist butchers.

Properly certified rat meat, for instance, is fine. Rat meat that's supposed to be beef, though, is not.

No I got that, I just remember when they traced the meat back to attempt to blame Eastern Europeans, then found that they'd properly certified the meat and it was the import company who had suddenly "made an honest mistake"

Strangely this never got the same amount of press as the horse one. Don't recall seeing this mentioned here the past few days: the govt are now definitely pushing ahead with stripping housing benefits from 18-21 year olds, which will begin in April. I wonder if that would be the sort of event that could prompt a general election. Secure a personal mandate for May and her vision for Brexit, increase her parliamentary majority, obscure the reasons for elections in those specific seats and it's probably also a good way of getting around the fixed term parliament act.

So long as that's actually what they do, that'd be OK. Although retain some rolling, heather covered hillside. There's just something about it that I find very moving any time I travel up or down the root from Inverness to the south. My fear is that a lot of it ends up covered in quick growing wood for the purpose of being cut down, which is what's already happened to a reasonable amount of the Scottish Highlands. And that's boring as gently caress. But actual native species, Scots Pine & the like, regrowing the Caledonian Forest, I can get behind that.
