Speaking of Hierach, is there any alternative cards to use in place of it? the 3 or 4 Hierarchs are all that stands between me and a complete Abzan company. I really cant drop 150-200 to get them, is there anything I can use that's remotely close?

Birds is fine for Abzan Company, since black mana is actually useful, but the next best mana drops are complete garbage compared to Hierarch. You also really need at least the seven mana accelerants to get your deck going at a reasonable speed, so you're kind of boned without the Hierarchs.

I haven't played for like two years but I got up to speed on the MTG news last night.

This new Modern Masters is just insane. Should have sold the stuff I wasn't using. Cause I'll lose hundreds now. I guess it's worth it if it actually means more people to play against.
The new Yugioh themed set looks pretty cool too. I'm hoping for a big creature that costs WB4 or something called Blue Eyes White Dragon.

To the dude asking about Abzan Company: Avacyn's Pilgrim is the next-best after Birds. It is a bit worse (you spend a lot of time attacking with a single Kitchen Finks or whatever, and that exalted does make a difference), but it's not as much of a loss as it is for Infect. There are even situations in which it's better!

(I actually had one of those this FNM, played a turn 1 Pilgrim against my opponent's turn 1 Glistener Elf. They declined to attack.)

At FNM tonight, I won a game of abzan company vs. elves where my turn two courser of kruphix revealed all of my combo pieces in a row on the top of my deck. My opponent was a much better sport about it than I would have been.

I posted this to reddit, but figured you'd get a kick out of it too.

This was back in '96 or so, I think (and others have confirmed it). Back during the weird days of the MTG tournament scene.

I am trying to remember playing in any of these, but I was such a dink at this point in time that whenever I entered a tournament it was usually with a really terrible deck (or a borrowed one that I just utterly sucked at running). I remember playing some Iron Man magic, but usually never with anything I cared about ... and I definitely didn't run ante, haha.

Iron Mage where you don't actually rip your cards up could be a kinda neat gimmick. Play a best-of-three match but you don't shuffle your GY or Exile zones back into your deck after games 1 and 2?

Also, I like how the term "draft" back then didn't mean what it does now, at least according to this flyer ("Pass the Booster" was the best you could do?)

Is there any recorded evidence of a novelty cube surviving for more than one or two drafts? It seems like every other week someone tries putting together an "Innistrad cube", or a "94 Cube". I see people put so much effort into these, only to never draft it beyond the initial run.

God, that game was so bad. Also, it was hilarious that any given card would have 5 or 6 keywords on it with almost no explanation, and some would have upwards of 9 or 10.

My buddy has a 94 cube that he keeps together and we play with while killing time at FNMs. He brings it every time, so yeah... but it's kind of a unicorn.

My Peasant Multicolored Cube has survived 5 years, half a dozen iterations and a large number of drafts. Most people I Cube with agree it's one of the better Cubes they've seen.

A friend built an Innistrad Cube that's only been drafted once, but he only finished it a month ago.
