The instant Funi gets their hands on a dub, and is in charge of it, it's instantly going to be terrible. The Mob Psycho 100 dub was amazing because while it was aired on Funi, it was not handled BY Funi, it was handled by a different company. Funi's simuldubs have been getting more and more hilariously entertaining. The Yuri!!! On Ice dub was terrible, the Servamp dub was so ridiculously horrible that it somehow made the show amazing and entertaining (the show is already bad, the bad dub made it good), the Izetta dub, now this... seriously, if they didn't try to get the dub out so quickly and actually outsourced it like Mob Psycho 100, things wouldn't be so bad.

Well, I think the dub speed is kinda not the major part of the issue here. The major issue is it seems like the philosophy behind this dub script, which seems to involve the translator feeling pretty free to make up jokes/reinterpret the story as they choose.

she's not calling kobayashi a cuck (or anything) with that word, she's just saying the word for that situation of having a spouse/lover stolen (basically saying "you seduced her. with your body. it's NTR. you lecherous four-eyes!")

except the word in question comes from the name of that type of porn, which is the joke, because cool kyoushinsha is a pervert

Edit: Also holy poo poo that Fafnir dub is an abomination. Even aside from the stiff delivery, the lines are just bad. He's supposed to be aloof and above-it-all, not actively hostile to the rest of the cast and their antics.

i'm not gonna watch the dub but the writing seems really bad while the voices are fine. people are free to think it's the worst thing ever and that kanna somehow sounds like she's twenty or whatever. i don't like funi's overall strategy with simuldubs but you can get a good result every so often (recently, yuri on ice), and again I'll bring up that the disc release will go through qc for rewrites and selective redubbing.

I don't know if that dub clip is just bad voice acting or questionable voice directing. Little kids in anime (or video games) always sound either awful or they nail it, feels like there's no middle ground.

yea Kanna doesn't really sound 'childish' to me in either version but I figured that's the joke, since, ya know, she's a dragon and even their kids are more mature and all.

Unless you do like Sweetness and Lightning and get an actual child to do the voice it'll never sound fully 'right' and most people don't want to do that for pretty good reasons like 'oh gently caress puberty probably won't line up with our airing' and 'also managing kids can really suck rear end'. That said I think dub Kanna sounds bad because she sounds incredibly like a grown woman doing some kinda 'baby voice', while normal Kanna is just kinda sounding like a normal person maybe pitching their voice down a bit and using more childish language.

Iruru continues to look very very dead. Kanna visiting Kobayashi's office was the first scene Iruru should have been in that she's been explicitly written out of, and between how much original material was in this ep and how much the preview seems to show, I wouldn't be surprised if the remaining 4 eps are comprised of a bunch of original content and then the confrontation with Tohru's dad.
