Oh, I totally agree, and I have had those thoughts before. I've definitely referenced it before, but it's beautifully encapsulated by that Jeesuz-Jesus illustration.

There are more left wing Catholics out there than you'd expect though they don't really seem to hold a lot of electoral sway. The best we've seen in terms of a non right wing Christian candidate recently is, ugh, Tim Kaine.

Christianity has become, maybe going to church on Sundays, definitely holidays, and the rest of the time, whatever, maybe shout you're a good Christian if someone challenges your opinion on something.
Interesting though, it's not the entirety of it, but I do believe that could be a key component.

I think you can, most people just don't. As for the George Bush thing, he used the mask of compassion to gloss over the evil poo poo he did and he did it in the direct shadow of the largest American tragedy since WW2 and Trump is doing his evil poo poo 16 years later and not even pretending to care about other people. Yeah this whole half-page kind of reeks of over-generalization. Christianity might be incompatible with humanism, and that's not an insignificant difference, but it's not incompatible with progressive causes. I mean the social/historical significance of Christianity when it emerged alone should speak to that.

George Bush is a Ivy League educated Yankee that somehow managed to create the illusion that he was a simple Southern rancher/Washington Outsider not the closest thing America has to nobility. So PR is obviously his strong side.
