Who do you think would make a good cast for the LWA dub?

I was not expecting, of all things, a Dexter's Laboratory reference.

I also love how they're just the Bad Girl crew of the school now. Double Edit: I knew it was a Dexter's Lab reference for sure when the animators drew Sucy's fingers curled literally exactly like Dexter's would be when he goes on a rant. paragon1 fucked around with this message at 01:59 on Feb 28, 2017 |

I kept thinking "This can't actually be a Dexter's Lab reference," right up until they focused on the shadow cast on the wall while Sucy was cackling. Was dope. Also I love how quickly and easily Akko begins laughing at her dopey personification in Sucy's memories.

Is there actually a good reason why magic is believed to be in decline? It can't just be modern science...

Magic traditionalists like the faculty of Luna nova shunning flashy public magic demonstrations like Chariot's probably doesn't help.

I don't think there's been anything explicit, but I've gotten the impression that normies generally view magic as impractical and increasingly unnecessary.

The impression I've been getting is technology is improving at an increasing rate, just like our world, while magic is relatively static so between that and magic requiring batteries outside the Sorcerer's Stone's range means people view it as antiquated and impractical.

Spiritus Nox posted:I don't think there's been anything explicit, but I've gotten the impression that normies generally view magic as impractical and increasingly unnecessary. The Fafnir episode basically makes the point that magic is useless and you should do something like investment banking instead, which isn't quite "science is replacing magic" but is definitely related theme. But the way Andrew's dad talks about magic, complaining of its irrelevance but also speaking of witches as his "enemy" makes it seem like he is conspiring to drive the practice of magic into irrelevance. I think the important piece of info we're missing here is whether magic is becoming useless because nobody cares about it (in which case Akko can fix everything just by being awesome like Shiny Chariot) or whether nobody cares about magic because it's becoming useless for some other reason (such as Andrew's dad is a secret dark wizard trying to kill off the training of wizardry so he will have no rival in his plans for world domination).

I think the 'magic is in decline' bit is certainly a relatively weak part of the worldbuilding, but maybe we aren't meant to believe it yet.

Remind me, did Akko and company use magic in town during the night fall episode? Because Ursula/Chariot did when she was a young screwup. That may be an indicator of magic fading, as well as part of an explanation of why Ursula's such a shadow of her former self.
