Pollyanna posted:I'll prolly go to the gym again...sigh Hey friend, remember that trying to do everything at once is super bad and will just end up burning you out. If you try to suddenly start eating only healthy things and cut your food intake by a lot and exercise four days a week for two hours and try to go to bed at like nine every night so you can get a perfect eight hours of sleep and stop drinking alcohol and all this other poo poo, you will hate it and you won't keep doing it because it sucks. Like, the thing about exercise and eating better and all that poo poo is that it's annoying and inconvenient as hell and anyone who pretends it's not is an idiot. Hell yeah it'd rule to eat whatever all the time and never have to do anything and stay in perfect physical condition, anyone who honestly prefers this dumb sweaty reality over they hypothetical effort-free one is a shithead dumbass. That said, it's still worth doing, for sure. Just don't do all of it at once right away. Do one thing - only one thing, doesn't matter what - until it feels like you've always been doing that thing and it would feel weird to not do that thing. It takes like 90 days before our brains really treat something as a habit or a routine, so it might take that long. Start with something really easy, like, when you're grocery shopping, buy a few pre-made salads at target as meals or buy a pair of kettlebells secondhand and use em twice a week. Twice or three times a week isn't going to make a big difference, physically, but it's just something really simple that doesn't take a lot of effort to do and the point is to ease into it. Then once that thing is just a normal part of your life, you add another thing. And so on. It's not going to feel like a lot, especially at first and if you're anything like me you'll constantly be feeling like "man I'm not doing enough I should just be able to do more, all at once, I don't have the willpower apparently I'm just a lazy fucker". Well I actually really am a lazy fucker so I'm gonna get in shape like a lazy fucker because otherwise I won't be able to actually do the thing. It sucks and trying to pretend it doesn't/won't suck is discouraging and it won't help. But it's doable and eventually it won't suck so much and the results will offset the suck to the point that it'll start feeling good not because it actually is cool and good to waste five hours a week picking up heavy stuff and putting it down and shuffling around a nasty stink room but because you feel good about having done it. Like vacuuming or whatever. It isn't super fun excellent yes but it can be really satisfying. Plus there's the physiological benefits beyond the obvious and cool vanity-based ones. Vanity is a perfectly good reason to work out but like it actually fucks your brain chemistry real good and that on it's own is a neato benefit too even if you end up looking exactly the same. anyways lol troommnp or something

real talk my best move with regard to workouts is getting a workout buddy. working out is boring and annoying but if you have a buddy to go with you it's a lot more fun and you have someone to keep you accountable. you make a promise to yourself, well, that's easy to break. you make a promise to someone else who's counting on you, then you're loving obligated. also humongous lol at "getting up there"; i'm almost 32 and i'm in the best shape of my life.

You can't overload [the brain]. Have you ever heard people say, "Friend Ben, don't take so many benzos, it will overload your brain?" You can't overload the human brain.
