While doing the fishing sidestory for Nozomi I wound up snagging a ¥500k tuna and two ¥100k axolotls, do I need them for anything or can I go ahead and just sell them?

Since this is the game series where half the game are untranslated, and half of us are playing them anyway, are there any recommended phone apps to help you define kanji by writing it out or taking a picture of it?

I'll give it a try, but I was under the impression that Google Translate stuff was really terrible for Asian languages.

I thought there might just be a nice comprehensive kanji dictionary app, where you could input an image or write your own kanji, and it would recognize it and bring up the proper info. If the GT app can do that and offer reliable info, then that's great.

Most of the time the fonts are too blurry or too serif-y or not half width katakana or whatever and it won't work.

I've only used it for one Majima substory and to get a bunch of Zap guns to farm Shakedown. The weapon crafting has always felt kind of unnecessary to me in this series.

it's kinda useful right before endgame where you have tons of money to burn and the agents will just straight-up bring back top-tier stuff

mostly good for armor, kiryu could really use some good bullet resistance for the finale. also helps him survive Amon's initial bullshit rush until you hit the super easy phase 2 of that fight. also Majima can cheese the second stage of his amon fight with knives real easily, just block his combo with Slugger(which gets him to 2nd bar), then pull out the knife and do the surprise-knife heat action, repeat

E: I actually found Mad Dog more useful than Dragon though, mad dog at least has fantastic crowd-control while dragon suffers against multiple enemies

dragon seems kinda mediocre overall actually, though maybe i'm just used to yakuza 5 kiryu who has 0 attack delay and can start fights by instakilling 4 dudes like a dbz character

Perhaps I'm stupid as hell (actually a fact) but some of the pacing of the main plot is crazy in certain chapters. You advance it two steps and are drawn into a super long sequence and that is all she wrote.

With that said, game is epic. Just the writing and expressions on Kiryu's face are comedy gold. Grinding out real estate now.

The google translate app won't do a terrible job if you get a clear shot of the text. The translation will get you in the ballpark, and it seems way better than it used to be. Like others have said very stylized kanji might throw it off but it's decent at picking up what kanji are in front of it. Then you just copy paste them into a dictionary app like Jsho. There are translation projects out there for games like Ishin that may never get translated (though SEGAs definitely surprised us before)

Just last December they implemented a neural net-backed translation engine that can provide much better translations when there's some context.

That, my friend is the true essence of this game. Sharing it with loved ones so they too can take part in some hosed up poo poo.

I enjoy sharing the finer nuances of the game, from the porno mag story to the training of the dominatrix along with the soft core porn viewing with my wife just to see the reaction. But the one that really got her to spit bile was the JCC. Funny thing is after about two matches she was telling me what to pick and did quite well. I have a feeling she'll be doing that part of the game.

I'll probably hatch the phone club on her tonight and see how that goes over.

Yeah. The whole thing is one incredulous journey. Who would have known running around collecting cards would lead you to a guy that jizzes in his pants constantly?

While this is my first Yakuza game (always kept my eye on them since I was a Shenmue fan back in the day with the Dreamcast) I never had a PS to play them...right now this is a blast.

Weird one for me is substory 1 for Kiryu. Doesn't exist for me right now, reading a guide says to complete something in Majima's area first. Is this normal?

It is the fortune teller one. She isn't showing up in chapter 9 and guide says show up at night. Yet perhaps need to do more Majimi stuff. Who knows.

What's up with that? Why do something like that that setpiece but spend the rest of the entire game stressing how he doesn't kill people?

Part of RGG is that you could seperate the over the top scenes and it will still be a great movie game. The over the top moments just makes everything feel like a game vs an exploration adventure
