I just got this as a promoted post thing:

I'm not sure what it is, looks like one of those things they use to generate analytic profiles as were alleged to be used in the referendum and US election.

I took a quick look and the questions are along the lines of "how worried about a terror attack against the country/you" and "how worried are you about being injured in a car crash" followed by four brain-teaser/Bayesian statistical riddles, so it seems fairly transparent what narrative they're trying to push, followed by a survey which is just "Are Muslims encrypting immigrants on the dark webs?" type stuff, but 3 and 8 are the same.

It's a crap methodology, better description would be "How do (mainly) Americans feel about various countries". Germany dropped below the UK because of the terror attack(s, but only one was significant) and refugees, which IMO doesn't make the country that much worse.

Oh I see! This must be the Bad Opinion Zone!
I don't agree with Stephen Hawking on a lot of things, but I think there's a point to be made in that 'allowed himself be seen as a left wing extremist' is at least somewhat valid because that's part of Corbyn's messaging. I mean part of his appeal to the Momentum crowd is that he's so left wing that he's hated by at least 85% of Labour MPs. If you believe, as most people do outside this thread, that Labour is a left wing party, this kinda makes him the definition of a left-wing extremist. If someone was aiming to place himself as too right wing for 85% of the Tories, I don't think it's exactly unjust for the media to call him a right wing extremist.

The "criteria" (more like lack of such) is such enormous bullshit that I don't even know where to begin.
Looking at some more reasonable indexes like Gini and WTBB and such it's pretty clear that places like Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Germany score higher on all counts. Switzerland is not out of place near the top of the list though.
The UK remains a very nice place to live, but saying it's #3 is bullshit.

This is a pretty weak appeal to relativism; the PLP being stuffed with centrists doesn't magically make regular left wing politics "extreme" whereas the Tory PP is full of actual right wingers, not centrists, so being to the right of 85% of them would definitely be pretty extreme.

I'm not even sure what direction they're going for though. Like having the statistical brain teasers directly after the 'how worried about terrorism' and 'how worried about a car crash' questions implies that they're selecting for people who consider themselves statistically aware, and then they follow it up with some idiotic questions.

Who is that even for? Smug 'rationalists' who like to use the word sheeple unironically? Internet nerdlords who think all social problems can be solved with badly-applied Bayes? Or is it genuinely trying to prove a link between authoritarian silliness and innumeracy?

If it's the latter, what are they then proposing we do? Move away from authoritarian methods because they're logically unsound even though it will make the Express scream? Or replace statistics in schools with Goveathonics for Academies so that more people will be on board with those kind of measures? Or (more likely) just selling that data to anyone that wants to push for either of those.

Relativism is literally the correct approach to maters of left and right; centre and extreme;. If you disagree, there's a simple experiment; Balance on your toes and lean too far from your centre, so you fall over. Use a GPS to measure the exact point that was 'too far'.

Post on social media warning people if they ever go North of that point you measured, they too will fall over.

Corbyn has pretty clearly fallen over. And that has nothing to do with where he stood in absolute terms, only the fact that, in this analogy, he doesn't quite get how his limbs work.

You don't need to be a super smart politics man or even a science man to see that Corbyn has good politics but is a disaster of a leader. I don't see how anyone can find what Hawking said disagreeable, especially since that's been the general consensus here for a while. The problem is finding someone with both good politics and the leadership skills to overcome the lovely situation Labour is in, since most of the PLP have neither.

And yes, the media are obviously massively against Corbyn, but any Labour leader to the left of David Cameron is going to face that in this day and age, and unless you're planning on completely abandoning the democratic route to socialism, then we need to go d a leader who can deal with that effectively. I don't think it's impossible. Look at Bernie Sanders, the guy consistently beat his right wing adversaries in the opinion polls in a country far more averse to socialism than ours, which as Pissflaps likes to point out is something Corbyn has failed to do. Too bad his party went with a candidate that everyone knew was unpopular with voters. Labour should do the same imho.
