Jesus I'm absolutely terrible.

When the demo came out I managed to scrape off a win on Very Hard with some practice, when I started this time on normal I got my rear end beat in the same section. I'm so used to BOTW's big dodge animation that 2B's glide keeps making me think it's a dash button and I forget on the fly that it's actually my "get out of the way" button.

Operation complete.
So in the factory at the very beginning, at the part where you drop a bridge down you can jump off the side into open air. I haven't encountered any jumps like that yet elsewhere in the game that killed you rather than lead you to some other area but I'm worried this may be an exception as I can't see anything down there. Anyone know what will happen if I make the jump so I don't have to possibly kill myself finding out?

This is no joke one of the biggest things ruining the game for me right now. Normal is boring. Hard is absurdly punishing.

I bought two open-world post apocalyptic games this month. One I expected to have incredible combat mechanics, a fascinating game world, interesting side quests with well designed combat encounters, and a well tuned challenge. The other I expected to have some fairly casual combat, probably a bit of jank, and generic open-world quests, but hoped the interesting setting would make up for it.

I was exactly right, I just got which would be which backwards. Thank god I impulse bought HZD.

how far are you in the game?

Oh, so everything kills you in 2 hits if you start on hard huh. I have to shame myself by going to normal then :(

*ed*

Haha didn't even see the preceding discussion. I have died 4 times now in the tutorial area and it forces you to restart the game without a checkpoint each time so gently caress hard mode for now.

To continue complaining about hard mode, it's even dumber because using the defense boosting items pretty much brings damage back down to normal difficulty levels. Since they're so cheap to purchase you can pretty much cheese hard mode if you're willing to go into the item menu once or twice every fight.

You can obviously grind for levels and chips to get stronger but if you play on normal the game isn't very difficult anyway.

Four bosses in. Does it get dramatically better? I'm gonna stick around for the music and plot weirdness, but right now I'm not a fan of it as a game. I knew the overworld would be less Platinumy but expected the dungeons to be on par with the demo... feeling a bit misled.

It's especially frustrating because Hard on the demo was tuned just right. In the final build everything is too lethal to for me, at least on a first run... and Normal is what I would imagine Very Easy would be. Neither are fun. I'm either sleepwalking to story moments or tearing my hair out.

Yes. But you'll (minor spoilers) get an email early on that gives you the coordinates for where your sword washed up.

It does not. I've done everything aside from an optional superboss and I'm honestly not that impressed with the gameplay. It's better than the first Nier but that's not exactly a high bar to clear, and while it is overall fun the balance skewing towards things being either pushovers or murderbots kind of puts a damper on things.

I like the game a lot so far but I think it suffers from unlocking side quests way too early, there's one that's an escort mission style thing with buckets of level 30 enemies that I first tried at level 10, and then the actual story missions are cakewalks in comparison. This is compounded by the fact that I instinctively want to do all the side missions before progressing in the story. That's my only big complaint, except for the lack of autosave which hasn't screwed me too badly yet but I just know it will.
Ending k lost me a few minutes but it was funny enough that I can forgive it.

You have to replay the game at least 4x to get the complete story and then do side quests.

If we're talking stereotypes isn't it usually Japanese games that are polished to a mirror sheen while western ones are flaming wrecks worthy of Icarus?

That's weird to hear that you're having major issues, though; aside from the one game breaking bug that occurred if you started before the game had finished downloading, I haven't heard many complaints in that regard.

Regardless of what you think of the combat, the opinion you have at the start is pretty much going to be the opinion you have at the end, since there really aren't any significant unlocks or anything that changes the core gameplay.

Maybe in the ps1-ps2 era. 360 era and up japanese developers for lack of a better term got much "weaker" than western ones for sure.

About 3ish hours in having fun, although coming to this game from a platinum fan first perspective, this definitely is no Bayonetta :smith: If combat doesn't really change past the beginning point that's an incredible disappointment.

So just starting this game and knowing nothing, I have one theory - Im guessing the name 2B is a play on "To be, or not to be" and a bunch of the story is her grappling with what it means to be human and can robots and androids be human but that seems too simple.

This is a game where the first time you talk to a shopkeep he goes on for a bit about how his one leg is the last original part of him left so hmmm if he replaces it is he even still himself anymore, subtlety isn't on the table and 2B's name is definitely a play on to be yes duh

I mean there's even a bit where you have to activate the suicide option, c'mon

Yeah i've been meaning to also. I feel like going through with everything in context will be its own kind of experience plus i need more sidequests. It's 4 days since i beat it and all the stuff that happened in this crazy rear end game are still resonating with me.
