Rap Record Hoarder posted:I always thought that the trick of telepathy-blocking helmets in X-stories was the shape and/or special plating, not the material used to make it (this of course varies depending on canon, timeline, and writer but I digress). This also goes for Cerebro; a main plot point in X2 is that swapping the panel configuration around directly affects the amplification of psychic abilities. In Logan, the big dome they have Xavier housed in is missing chunks. A lot of squarish, panel shaped, almost strategically placed chunks. Is it because they're living in the middle of the desert in lovely future world and that's the best approximation they could find, or is it because Logan knew enough to try and imitate the Cerebro design in a way that puts a damper on Xavier's abilities when he has a seizure freakout? I mean, the important thing is that the fallen water tower looks likes Cerebro. Cerebro has basically reflected Professor X in every movie so it makes sense that this one would be old, broken and ineffective.

Aside from the few action scenes, there was almost nothing that couldn't be replicated on television. The scene of Wilson finding himself an outcast comes to mind, in particular. The budget didn't seem to help this: the evil lab and the X-Men school would easily pass for TV sets. Blind Al specifically comes off across as a character written as if they were being introduced in a TV pilot and going to be expanded on later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_HuFuKiq8U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6GCEQVSOOs scenes in a Television Show.

The movie is well made and has a couple good scenes in it, but the final fight felt strangely underwhelming, and the script doesn't have an original idea in it. There's more to making a 'grown-up' super hero movie than upping the violence and adding a few swears. Patrick Stewart is a treasure and the highlight of every scene he's in.

I saw this last night and was very entertained. It was a more "human" super-hero movie. Jackman and Stewart's bantering was always a treat as well.

The theatrical version was the PG-13 version because I remember hearing Spawn say "Bitchin'!" as his cape deploys when he falls out of that building, then when the home release came out, they redubbed it so he was like "gently caress yeah!" or whatever. I thought it was real hilarious hearing Spawn say bitchin' in the theater so I was pretty disappointed that they decided to extreme it up for the home release.

Back on the subject of the movie, thinking about it, the first scene where Logan meets the head of security is pretty great. It shows him far wolverine has fallen that this guy who knows all about him feels comfortable getting close to him and threatening him. And it also shows how poo poo his legacy is that a guy like that considers himself a fan. I will admit that I didn't like how they instantly crossed over the border from Mexico to Vegas. Especially because they had shown the border is heavily policed, and they were driving a shot up and scarred limo.

This film wassssss way more political then I thought. From the faded liberty motel sign (overt shots that linger on it) To references to the wall (drunken people yelling USA) Villain named Donald who had a skull and cross bone tattoo with what looked to be Trumps toupee. Even at the end where said Donald is beaten and defeated by a bunch of minority children. White mutant male kids were absent. There is one that was all reptilian, but he completely disappeared at the end. Also, most if not all the reavers were white who had no genetically superior gifts (i.e mutant powers), so they had to artificial create them through capitalism run amok (white male privilege). It is even the minorities who die at the hand of white male rage (Mexicans and the Black farming family) Even Professor X can be seen as a white moderate whose passivity and paralysis causes the "mutants" to die and be rounded up. Surprisingly woke.

Isn't one of his limo passengers in the montage a construction tycoon type, with a Bolo tie saying "We're making a killing up (all?) along the wall" or something very similar? Logan himself seemed equally indifferent to upper and lower class characters and the degraded nature of society, mirroring how people generally ignore things like political/government engagement because grandpa needs pain meds and you can't afford a good care home and similar (imminent real life issues)

The people riding in the limo are basically the Kardashians, Eric Trump & Friends, and Dick Cheney.

Bit of a vanity move that the only thing that can kill Wolverine is... another Wolverine. But it really redeemed and gave great closure to a character who I always thought was over-exposed, like the Joker.

Here's the official synopsis for Justice League, to be used in all marketing material: quote:Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's (Henry Cavill) selfless act, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes -- Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash -- it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions. Bolding mine. Anyway this is the Logan thread, so if you want to continue this let's go over to the General Comic Book Discussion side and yack about it.
