Agreed, but when he beat up Travis Brown it was amazing, for a heavy weight Arlovski's hands are so sharp.

from now on it's legal to cheat on steroids if you look like vitor or yoel but it's twice as illegal as before if you're using a bunch of steroids to sculpt the iron body of Ben rothwell or josh Barnett

The people I know who really talked him up were, weirdly, Fedor fans who needed to prove that Arlovski is good in order to prove that Fedor's win was really important and relevant. I think it was just Greg Jackson node theory telling him he had a heavy right hand and everything he does should be about landing it and if possible don't get hit on the giant "off" button he has in place of a chin. And this was an amazing discovery that vaulted him back into contention because trashweight. Really the same thing as Overeem, who has even more and better tools both striking and grappling but forgets them all whenever he gets hurt. So they teach him some strategies to avoid damage and drill them into his muscle memory. With Alistair you can see a kind of evolution. When he got killed by Rothwell he was doing the standard Winkeljohn circling away behind oblique kicks and stuff. Big Ben just bulldozed through and knocked his head off. After that it would appear that his camp consulted the flowcharts and discovered that Overeem should just turn around and run whenever somebody pressed him. He's gotten better at covering up, too.

alvarez vs poirier should be cool, dunno why alvarez was waiting around for some money fight. getting clowned by conor doesn't magically give you leverage

Tony Ferguson is angry because he thought he was going to get his show money (250k), but he got "less than half". (UFC rep said under condition of anonymity that he was paid "6 figures" and they told him several times and his agent several times what he'd get if he decided not to take a replacement fight and just weigh in.) So, somewhere between 100k and 125k. They also said that was more than the show money would have been for his standard contract, so they believe they were generous. The UFC often voluntarily chooses to pay fighters their show money when an opponent drops out at the last minute, but this was a special one-time deal based on an interim title fight taking place, and the UFC says they do not have to pay fighters anything at all if a bout doesn't happen.

http://mmajunkie.com/2017/03/tony-ferguson-says-he-received-less-than-half-his-contracted-show-money-for-ufc-209/ Tony talked to MMA Junkie and says he was shocked to receive less than half of his contracted show money for UFC 209. A UFC official spoke anonymously that Tony was told how much money he would be receiving, but did not deny that they paid him less than the show money. Insanely lovely if true, especially when Tony has had nothing but great things to say about the UFC, and even showed up to the weigh ins and asked everyone to show love to the UFC, to Khabib, and to buy the PPV.

So then Khabib helped cost Ferguson over $100,000 because he hosed up his weight cut and pulled out of yet another fight. Man gently caress Khabib. I can't blame Ferguson or Conor for not wanting to be booked to fight him going forward. UFC should still have paid Tony the show money imo though. He did nothing wrong and lived up to all his obligations.

manyak posted:The UFC has been really nickel and diming everyone lately huh Yeaap, and it's weird as gently caress to do this to a guy who has turned in a bunch of insanely watchable spectacular fights and probably could have livened the card up a lot if they had paid him what he was asking for to fight Michael Johnson on super short notice, which was his contracted show money, but instead asked him to take a pay cut for that fight. Not that it would be ok to do this to a less exciting fighter, but Tony seems like the kind of guy you'd want to do the absolute bare minimum for to keep happy and pay the guy his show money. threeagainstfour fucked around with this message at 23:36 on Mar 8, 2017 |

Tony got a special rate for this fight, then turned down a replacement. The ufc arent obligated to pay any money if you dont fight, so he got much more than his actual show money.

I think MMA fighters should collectivize and negotiate a bargaining agreement, and also I think I don't want to ever here anyone complain about getting paid only 100k for working out for 8 weeks
