Some people put the ability to compete in t1 standard magic above having personal transportation for themselves and their children. I have no idea why this statement offends people when its brought up but putting magic above basic needs is irresponsible.

I cannot drive. I have had no reason or need to, nor have I had the disposable income to justify putting it towards learning until lately. (Without cutting out things that made a difference to my life at the time, like socialising, or playing card games.)

However, until 3 years ago, I didn't get to play competitive magic, because the only shop, whilst being within the city, was a pain to get to, because I had to go to a different train station, and get a different train, that took 10 minutes to go not very far, and it was in the middle of nowhere I'd want to be.

So if I'd wanted to play there regularly, I would've asked someone who drove there if I could have a lift.

I'm lucky enough to not be in an overall financial crunch but one of my resolutions for this year was to set a monthly gaming budget for myself that includes Magic, which is fun in its own weird way because now I have to be creative in my deckbuilding rather than just rushing out and buying poo poo for new decks. Of course with a new Nintendo console and a really good Modern Masters set coming out this month, I sure picked a lovely time to start budgeting! Or a really good one, depending on your point of view.

Added bonus is that I'm even less likely to start playing Standard now :v:

I mean, depending on your limit, you could just get the MM17 box and wait on your Zeldabox if Zelda is something you can wait on.

I couldn't

My budget is like $100 a month so lol to either of those :negative: It's mostly an exercise in making me play through all the games I already have, and to stop building every deck that looks cool.

Just buy that monthly MODO rental subscription for like $60 and play constructed to your heart's desire.

If someone is attempting to pass off fakes in trades and deals with dealers you notify the police and let them do the investigation ya know, since it's fraud.

This may come as a surprise, but the police don't care very much about fake cards for a children's card game

I am pretty sure police can help in these situations where anyone attempting to scam people out of things with substantial value. It doesn't matter if it is a children's card game.

Fevered Visions just doesn't seem great right now and I board it out alot... but I have no idea what to cut it for and it's so good in the matchups where it's good that I guess we still want it? Idk

I absolutely love fevered visions. It just dominates some matchups, and even when it's not fantastic it helps mitigate the fact that you're two-for-oneing yourself all over just to get your dudes on the board in a timely manner.

I guess it depends on your metagame though, it seems like no-one around here plays Mardu but a bunch of people are playing green-based loses-to-fevered-visions decks.

Speaking as police, there's not a ton to be done. It's either a civil matter, since a willing exchange happened, or maaaaybe something in NC called "obtaining property by false pretense", the pretense being that you received a real card in exchange for a fake one while leading someone to believe the fake was real. Dunno if a magistrate/judge would go for it, seriously doubt it. Probably would end up being a civil matter and probably wouldn't be worth hearing unless the card was worth a lot.

My midrange Abzan deck lost its first match at FNM to U/W Spirits. It seemed like he won if he found Spell Quellers.
I don't know if I should be playing the match as more of a draw go until he feels like he can safely play a rattle chains with back up, and hopefully I can overcome with Grasp / Push.

I know what to board out against him, but other than bringing in enchantment removal for stasis snares and -2 Gonti +2 Kalitas I do not know what is a hard counter to spirits. I already play 4 Grasp 4 Fatal Push.
