Pagetopper query: has anyone seen any ridiculously-good DPS shuttle builds as of late? I'm relatively certain there are some very optimized ones, and I mostly just want to set myself up for the next shuttle event, whenever that is. You talk about specialisation but then state you are a) mixing damage types (plasma & phaser) and b) mixing weapon types & skills (cannons & beams). This is A Bad Thing.

I haven't actually mixed plasma and phaser, that's me not using words properly, I only have plasma stuff but some of it is cannons and some of it is beams. The beams are all on the rear slots though as I figured having rear cannons doesn't help much.

That's a little less bad I suppose, but still, mixing beams and cannons is basically a thing you only do on "canon" builds or gimmick builds.

What would I do with cannons in the rear weapon slots though? They would never do anything unless I'm pretty much directly flying away from my opponent? I've gotten decent mileage out of running the dyson rep weapons/console on the peregrine/to'dug. The experimental has a good arc for shuttle stuff and benefits from the built in CRF. I also tend to run the assimilated engine/deflector with the Dyson on it for some built in hull/shield healing so I can use the boff slot for torp spread without dying constantly (you'll probably still die, just not as quickly). There's probably higher DPS builds but this will tear up a shuttle alert just fine. If you have the overwhelming force ship trait that's also still hilarious with torp spread+Romulan hyper-torp. Turrets are classified as cannons and are boosted by abilities that buff cannons. *Once you can afford some 360 omni beams you can also go DBBs in front and omni's in back.

Couple this with the fact that the beam AoE skill is a sphere of gently caress you instead of a cone of mild annoyance like the cannon variant and you can see why beams are better. Yes, a cannon boat will kill that one ship extremely dead, but your buddy with beams will have cleared the instance in the same time span.

As someone who runs different ships, most with BFAW and a hand full with CRF, stick with BFAW, it's by far the more efficient option.

Back when everyone ran DHC builds (not only just because of the old FAW bugs) the nature of endgame content at the time was one where high single target DPS was overwhelmingly what you wanted. Now everything is "whittle down this large pack of enemies" where single target DPS is basically not what you want. Also FAW works equally well on single target as multiple while cannon scatter volley is garbage for single target. I think beams are generally fine but cannon skills need an update.

Beam Overload desperately needs a revamp too. A single burst shot is so pointless against the current damage soak PVE targets, and even back in the day it was still more of a PVP skill. Something like the original Surgical Strikes is probably where a single-target beam skill needed to be, but then that was nerfed so...
