Get a beeta code if you missed out: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steel_Division/comments/5yqjzq/did_you_miss_out_on_a_sd_beta_code/

Also, quite an interesting picture that is telling of the new deck and phases system:

As we can see, your points income changes from phase to phase. Not only this, but you get units in different availabilities in each phase--for example you can buy a card of M10A1s available in Phase A but you will only get 2, or you can get a card of M10A1s with availability of 6 but you have to wait until phase C to deploy them.

We can also see that veterancy is also tied to phase. For example you can buy a card of 4 anti-tank marines in phase B at base veterancy, or buy a card of 4 with increased veterancy available in phase C.

The vehicles the units are brought in with can also be determined by phase. The Phase A 57mm towed guns are brought in by jeeps, while the phase B towed guns are brought in by half tracks.

At the top left of the unit cards we can see some symbol that possibly has to do with attack, while at the bottom right is a number that presumably corresponds to the vehicle's armor value.

That's the one thing they shouldn't do. They've got enough different levers to adjust this time around without having to touch the unit capabilities.

Yeah I hope they avoid screwing with hard stats for the most part. But I don't know how they'd do the disparity in numbers between allied and German air support. Unless the Luftwaffe was itself pretty much a noob trap, which they kind of were at this point in the war, in a weird way.

Seeing two Mustangs fighting two 190s over and over would be pretty lame.

Looking forward to expansions that go earlier and earlier in the war until we get to the Battle of France and a complete roster. Plus seeing the Char B and the Pershing fighting side by side in the spring of 1940 would bring warm feelings to my heart.

Because it's not unachievable, and it sets the tone of the design direction in what may become a series of games.

And thinking about it, its probably going to be there innately by just giving Germans less aircraft in their divisions to start with.

OctaMurk

It may be like Wargame in which deck design naturally discourages some factions from spending too much on air due to opportunity cost in the deck design.

For example, since Axis have both heavy tanks and medium tanks, they may be spending their deck slots on heavy tanks instead of aircraft while the Allies are spending slots on tankbuster planes and the ASF or recon planes to support them. Or the Axis decks may be simpy limited in the number of deck slots they may allocate to aircraft at all.

But nonetheless, I think this discussion is on the level of "how come T-72s don't cost 20 points to simulate USSR's numerical superiority in tanks".

Alchenar
Apr 9, 2008

I mean, the state of Wargame balance always came down to 'are infantry capable of creating no-go areas for tanks?'. If so, infantry heavy decks win. If not, Heavy Tanks always won.

I can see the first two weeks of meta after release being German players throwing all their points into a single Phase A Tiger tank that kills everything around it. That, or it'll always die to massed paratroopers and airstrikes and the wehraboos will all quit in disgust.

The big difference being the infantry fight is an incredibly dull meat grinder and the tank fight is fun. :v:

I hope they manage to make fighting in build up areas actually good this time.

What's worse, people bitching about German units being too weak, or people bitching about the Germans being too strong? It's a strategy game, having either side be disproportionately stronger than the other would be the opposite of fun. Hopefully they balance it giving the Germans low unit availability or prolonged deployment time to mimic small numbers and poor supply lines.

Personally I'm looking forward more to the early war expansion. France, Africa, and Russia. Less Wunderwaffen.
