Although, now there is zero reason for companions to be using M-8 Avengers in cut-scenes if it's not their 'iconic' weapon

The colour out of space.
I'm guessing the companions will at least have alternative outfits like in the previous two games, so hopefully that should at least offer some visual customization.

Alt armors are something they "want(ed) to do" and "couldn't fit in" which I'm pretty sure is code for "it's gonna be DLC of course".

They will, for the low low cost of $7.99/ea

If it follows the previous games, it will only be for, like, half of them too

So, what exactly puts this game above ME3, for example?

Almost everything seems to be exactly the same quality or actively less ambitious. Beyond maybe the combat?

If this game is as good as ME3, including the MP, but with even slightly better combat, the story could suck a hot donkey rear end and I'll still be okay with it. ME3's single player isn't as good as ME2, but it's certainly not bad aside from being way too easy.

Every single gameplay demo I've seen so far has been filled to the brim with Marvel/firefly style smarmy quipping. Was Mass Effect always this bad or am I losing my mind.

This game shouldn't suffer from a lot of the same problems as 3. This game isn't rushed like 3 was.

Crafting in games is a pet peeve of mine. Why have it at all? Why not just have store and customize stuff there rather than adding the extra step? Collecting materials just makes games feel like work.

Don't worry too much. If it's anything like DA:I the preorder and DLC gear will be best in slot for various upgrade tiers anyway so you can pretty much ignore upgrading for long stretches of the game. Then when you do just filter through all your inventory crap for the minor +1 helmet.

My main problem with 3 is that like half the game was missing, with conversations and quests being stripped down. And they've gone out of their way to stress that Andromeda has more dialogue than 2 and 3 combined so its got that going for it.

Same. Also, the main reason the ME3 story was bad was that it was a sequel to ME2, and this game doesn't have that problem. It still probably won't be great, but I doubt it'll be offensively bad.

They still do, Cora has a cutscene Avenger during the Liam loyalty mission they demoed even though her default weapon is a shotgun. Peebee's backwards Carnifex is also not her regular weapon.

Oh I'll cheat engine it all away in like 10 minutes. It's just inexplicable to me that they put these crafting systems in games that have no business having one. Especially in Bioware games. It makes zero sense that the ace specialist combat commando squad is spending any time at all running around mining and picking flowers.

I just had a mental image of commandos in iraq spending most of their patrols collecting particular shards of glass and pockets full of "special sand" to refine back at the base in the 3D printer to make themselves slightly better rifle scopes.

Major, we've found Al-Zarqawi. We need your team to go get him before he moves again. Now, down the hall you'll find a weapons shop, I hope you've been saving, I know the army doesn't pay well but you'll need every cent. If you require any modifications, here are some specs on how to craft them and our recon team has identified these locations as good places to find the raw materials for them. Good luck soldier!

Honestly this game is the first in the series that it would make sense to search for minerals/flowers, it fits the theme of the game

Yet so many people loved picking up garbage in Fallout to make stuff. Ryder Rydersdottir is the product of nepotism and luck, rooting through the trash for shinies doesn't seem entirely out of character for those kinds of people.

I don't think that it's necessarily a MP vs SP thing. I think it's that the press build from the preview events was two months old - it's not conclusive obviously, but the on-stage demos ran fine too. Either way I'm in the same boat, MP sounds really fun from all the impressions.
