Hey if anyone can give me a spare set of ears on the mix on this one fairly quickly, I'd appreciate it. https://soundcloud.com/danwarren/everyones-in-love-with-my-girl/s-nnvIv Trying to have it ready by V-Day, which is also my anniversary. I think it's pretty much there, but there's always poo poo I don't hear until later. Trig Discipline fucked around with this message at 00:11 on Feb 13, 2017 |

Trig Discipline posted:Hey if anyone can give me a spare set of ears on the mix on this one fairly quickly, I'd appreciate it. I'd push the vocals up a little, maybe throw a bit of reverb on it, but only a pinch. Take my advice with a grain of salt, though. I've only got like two years' experience. Here's my band. I've been recording just about every jam sesh they had for the past year and a half, once a week. I'm engineer and occasional backup vocals (not this one, had a cold). I think my mixes are finally starting to sound good. Just switched bassists about five weeks ago. It's been rough going while the band re-gelled, but I think it's coming together again. Here's what I got Wednesday, and I'll welcome any and all comments. https://soundcloud.com/devils-advocate-hermosa/sets/jam-night-02-08-17 Devil's Advocate (the name predates the movie, but it'll be a cold day in hell before anyone believes us) : Punk rock/reggae (sublime-influenced punk basically) out of Redondo Beach, CA. I'm kind of feeling my way blindly through mixing/mastering. As you can tell these tracks are all live, with every member of the band inside our garage studio. I want to start tracking stuff but I haven't done it before. Grand Prize Winner fucked around with this message at 06:37 on Feb 13, 2017 |

Rightyo, thanks y'all! Those were exactly the two things I was twiddling with the most at the end there, and of course the last change I make is always the dumbest.

AARO posted:New track Very nice, I like it! Two quick thoughts: 1) needs a better beginning/opening. Even a fade-in. Starts kind of abruptly, but I've noticed that with SC, sometimes it does that, so I'm not sure if it's the site or your track. 2) Hi-hats are a bit piercing, so I'd EQ them just a bit.

Cross-posting from the making electronic music thread: I finished my first song ever last night and man, it feels really good. I wrote the whole thing in one night and the second night was mostly spent filling it out and mixing/mastering. It really showed me how far I have come in that I was able to take an idea from its infancy and see it through to completion in a very reasonable amount of time. It's definitely a dance/electronic track but isn't your typical 4 to the floor beat. As always, any feedback is appreciated and most importantly, I hope there are some of you that enjoy it! https://soundcloud.com/bradley-freeman-3/hayes-valley

Spoke Lee posted:Finished another synthwave track I had sitting unfinished for a while. I'm really digging this, super cool atmosphere and I totally get the "Gameday" concept. Care to share some of your production techniques with those synths? I really love the staticy bass-synth throughout and the others compliment it really well.

Sure, I used Spire for the bass. The staticy kind of sound really kicked up when I added two extra oscillators and gave each one multiple unison voices. I think the trick was cranking the detune and density up to different but far enough apart settings. Think like 50, 70, 100% for each osc. So multiple oscillators, unison, detune, and spread it around.

I think it's definitely RC-20 Retro Color from XLN you are hearing. I'm not the best at sound design so I couldn't really figure out the right processing to get that sound, but I found this and it is fantastic. It's got modules in there to emulate worn cassette tapes and even vhs. I used the free trial and and am definitely buying it. https://www.xlnaudio.com/products/effect/rc-20_retro_color

https://soundcloud.com/exit-mundi-1 Self-produced and heavy-handed experimental concept albums I made in the ambient and progressive genres, and also a few really obnoxious rap songs I recorded when I was drunk for shits and giggles 'cause you've gotta let yourself have fun doing this stuff. I think Azerbaijan, Greetings, and To Save Their Souls are my best tracks here. Excited to browse through the stuff you guys have been posting.

My first instinct would be "bring the lead vocals up a bit" but I think that'd interfere with the generally... dreamy (?) nature of the track. Not really my thing, but well-executed. I particularly like the backing vocals (vocal synth? sounds like a continuous "oo").

Our drummer left the band, so I did an emergency recording session to capture a few of our new songs to help us audition replacement drummers. How emergency? I bought a used Focusrite 18i8, a new Behringer ADA8200, a couple of SM57s to add to my mic locker, and close-miced both guitar amps and the bass amp, used a stereo condenser hung over the drums, and three vocal mics... in our practice space. I'd never used either audio interfaces before, had never done a live recording with Ableton (only ever with Pro Tools in the past), etc... so it was an adventure. A successful adventure, I think, because these four tracks are the result, and I'm pretty loving proud of them given the recording situation and the fact that I have spent a total of ~4 hours mixing them: Recordings Band name is changing, fwiw, and I'm not actually in the list of names in our logo yet. Joined recently.

I just don't want to waste anyone's time by having them listen to garbage. And after I posted that track, it just felt unfinished. Like I only did the bare minimum to it in a hurry to show it off. Or maybe it's because I felt I should have just waited until someone responded to my thread? I don't remember. All I know is that I'm really self-conscious about my music for some reason.
