'+' is an arbitrary symbol used to denote a relationship between two other things. So, instead of
pre:
a+b=sum(a,b)
the relationship shown is
pre:
a+b=sum(a,product(a,b))
or whatever the other one is.

I guess if
pre:
an+bn=cn
then
pre:
an+1+bn+1=sum(cn,an+1,bn+1)
It's the kind of thing you get on the SAT/ACT, but they usually don't re-use symbols you normally see, so you get something more like
pre:
Given that
1 $ 4= 5
2 $ 5= 12
3 $ 6= 21
5 $ 7= c
Solve for c

I googled and the first article I saw said there's actually two possible answers that are logically sound. The first is 34, the other is 45. It depends on whether you think the pattern is to add the answer from the previous problem to the new problem (which gives 34, since 13 + 21), or whether the pattern is the sum of the first number and the product of both numbers (which gives 45, since 5 + 40).

That's true, but it's weird to use a symbol that already has a meaning. It's especially weird to use plus. Plus could be defined to mean anything, but generally it's a commutative and associative operation. This operation is neither. Really, it's just pretending to be "clever" on social media by being vague and confusing. In summary: https://xkcd.com/169/

No you don't, there have been Muslims in America since before independence. Hindus it's a little harder to pin down specifics, but Hindus were coming to American colleges in the late 1800s, and in 1907 a bunch of Sikhs (and some Hindus) were attacked for "stealing American jobs" in Bellingham, Washington (wiki).

What Lumper20 presumably means is "I remember when I never heard about Muslims or Hindus in America because absolutely everything in popular culture was made for and by white men."

From Turkey Vows "Harsh Retaliation" Seeks Sanctions, As Dutch PM Says "Not Apologizing, Are You Nuts?" posted by freeper SeekAndFind

The freep article is from Zero Hedge but it sources Reuters' Turkey's Erdogan says Netherlands acting like a 'banana republic'

quote:

In a speech in France, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu described the Netherlands as the "capital of fascism" as it joined other European countries in stopping Turkish politicians holding rallies, due to fears that tensions in Turkey might spill over into their expatriate communities.
[...]
The Dutch government - set to lose about half its seats in elections this week, according to polls, as the anti-Islam party of Geert Wilders makes strong gains - said the visits were undesirable and it would not cooperate in their campaigning.

"I call on all international organizations in Europe and elsewhere to impose sanctions on the Netherlands," Erdogan said, after his prime minister earlier said Turkey would retaliate in the "harshest ways", without specifying how.

And here's The Telegraph's Turkey says the Netherlands will 'pay the price' for denying entry to ministers, as Erdogan claims 'Nazism is alive in the west'

quote:

Recep Tayyip Erdogan swore to make the "fascist" Dutch government "pay the price" after it denied Turkey's foreign minister permission to fly in to attend a meeting aimed at drumming up 'yes' votes for an upcoming referendum. When the country's family and social policies minister came over from Germany to go instead, she was barred from the Turkish consulate and escorted back to the German border.
[...]
Far-right politicians across Europe including Marine Le Pen in France and Geert Wilders, who hopes to become the Dutch prime minister in elections on Wednesday, have seized on the row.

Mr Wilders has called for several weeks for the Rotterdam rally to be cancelled, and gleefully took credit for the decision Saturday, tweeting: "Great! Thanks to heavy PVV pressure a few days before the Dutch elections our government did not allow the Turkish minister to land here!!"

He tweeted yesterday/Sunday: "We have a fifth column in the Netherlands and it should disappear. If your loyalty lies elsewhere, then bugger off. No more dual nationality. And close the borders."
[...]
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said he would try to calm the situation, but dismissed the idea of him apologising as "bizarre".

"This is a man who yesterday made us out for fascists and a country of Nazis," he said on a local talk show Sunday. "I'm going to de-escalate, but not by offering apologies. Are you nuts?"

Last I checked, freep liked Turkey because they were fighting ISIS and Erdogan was going full authoritarian, and freep sure loves authoritarians.

Banks in the 1990's were coerced into giving risky mortgages... or face discrimination suits from Congress. They did so, after much protest. Congress then allowed them to package subprime loans and resell them, assuring them that the Feds will back them.
Then, right on cue before the 2008 election, everyone decides there's not enough money to cover all those bad loans.
Then Obama comes along and sues the banks for doing what they were forced by the government to do.

I know you know, but I just gotta point out that this is the exact opposite of reality. It was actually illegal to make a loan you thought was likely to fail, though that's so subjective it meant nothing so banks were making them all the god drat time. Then, like in My Cousin Vinny where the redneck took a twenty and wrapped it around a bunch of ones, the banks would put the best loans on top of a stack of bad loans and claim they were all equaled out to terrific loans.

That's a very basic and bare bones explanation that's a little too simplistic and it's STILL FAR MORE CORRECT than Freep's version of events (I was going to say "a million times more" but 0 X 1,000,000 = 0). My point is that Freep's ignorance is astounding, it is a forum devoted to discussing current event wherein they never actually gain any understanding of current events. also My Cousin Vinny is a good movie.

They've talked over and over about how the bill is so small, at only 70 pages, that anyone can read it. What they don't talk about is that most of that 70 pages is basically the legalese form of a source code diff and it's difficult to tell what's going on without referring to the ACA directly to see what the patches do.

This time we would like to read it before we pass it.

A lot of the thread is ready to revolt, but not everyone.

If he signs it as it stands, then his name will be on it. Not before.

You WobblyCons are all atwitter trying to hang this around his neck prematurely.

Why is that?

(I'm actually of the opinion that Trump is supporting this only because of Bannon, as Bannon knows that this will harm the establishment, and that's his expressly stated goal.)

Oh wait sorry TAX CUTS FOR EVERYONE (but mostly the rich)

If we know Ryan is treacherous, lazy and incompetent—Trump does, too. I think this is about tax cuts...

This would probably get a better rating from the CBO than the current bill, but it'd also kill more people.

It needs to be only one page. One sentence on that one page. Stating that the Affordable Care Act is henceforth abolished, null and void.

Guys, this is really just him three dimensional chess, right? Right?

Trump administration officials guaranteed Sunday that the president will hit the road soon to rally support for the health care bill put forth by House Republicans, saying the White House is “fully committed” to the legislation.

People Please! Remember this is a dodge. A gimmick. A head-fake by Trump. He is trolling the dems and the GOP-e. He is playing 3D chess while these morons are playing checkers. It's more "Art of the Deal" negotiating that will leave conservatives winners. It's (insert you own spin-line here).

At least it better be.

If Trump is really sincere here and he wants to swallow this load by Ryan, then he may not last 4 years

The current bill fucks the poor horribly, doesn't change a drat thing about competition in the insurance market, and doesn't do a thing about drug prices. (Also drug pricing kinda needs to be a ROI thing based on the research nessecary into getting something to market, it's astounding that they actually want price controls here but not on healthcare in general...)

It’s a mistake to keep saying the process is open - for it to improve and change thru endless input.

Bold leadership requires a simple plan... and then you sell that and get the House and Senate to follow suit. The House would follow, putting pressure on the Senate.

He should be out there preaching choice and freedom, helping those who are poor, showing he is opposed to health insurance companies that are afraid of real competition, and pharmaceutical companies that cheat the consumer.

He’s in my opinion unfortunately running the clock out on his already late legislative start. It’s clear the GOP Congressional leadership wants him stuck in the mud.

He’s going to TN likely to provide cover for Alexander and Corker, both of which are mushy at best.

He can “sell” it all he wants. I ain’t buying. I thought we had an ally in the White House to fight against Ryancare. I see I was wrong.

and wait on events before rendering final judgment. People continue to underestimate him, even his supporters!

He's wasting his time!!!!!

I preface my remarks by saying that our entire family supported and voted for President Trump. That said, if he is going there to try and hock the totally crap, bogus GOPE Ryan Obomination death care lite bill, he's in for a huge wake up call from his base because we, his supporters HATE THE BILL AND WANT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, PERIOD!

Millions upon millions of Americans placed him in power to represent US, not the insurance industry and health care lobbyists.

We want Obomination deathcare COMPLETELY REPEALED FIRST, and AFTER THAT, President Trump "the negotiator" can WORK ON OUR BEHALF FOR A CHANGE AND REPLACE IT WITH SOMETHING THAT BENEFITS AMERICAN CITIZENS. That is what HE PROMISED, and that is what we sent him to DC to do.

It astounds me that they think that this will actually be a successful multi-part piece of legislation. I have never, ever seen a "yeah we'll do that in phase two" operation work in any organization, no less government.

Strategery President Donald J. Trump style (ILWT)

It's a two-fer

Pass repeal and replace obambicare

followed up shortly after by a massive tax cut bill

Then re-visit the health care....major modifications.

(ILWT = I Love Writing That)

They've got a thread on the CBO report, with a few posts. If anything, the millions who will lose coverage has galvanized freepers into defending the bill.

I can't believe someone actually used the "3D chess" line unironically to refer to what game Trump is playing.

I also can't believe that even after their candidate won the election, there's still juicy schadenfreude for Freep losing.
