The only way Obama would get a horrible political legacy would be the collapse of the Democrats like the Whigs, which even now does not seem likely despite how weak the party is nationally at the local and state levels. The GFC was really bad, and now Trump is likely going to have every American relive the 20th century in a single term.

Obama definitely played a part in leading up to progressives putting pressure on the party, mainly because he ran on that rhetoric and then did a bait and switch with Geithner

the arc of trumps political career has been him rising on the back of the completely insane Republican voter base and trying to retcon it to be some kind of economic thunderbolt out of the blue is really dumb

I mean, he didn't have any PERSONAL scandals, but he did have 'boring' war and secrecy scandals involving Manning, Snowden, and the NSA. IMO ultimately he's gonna be looked at as a boring lame duck, nothing better or worse. He didn't rock the boat, passed reform that amounted to "everyone must get on insurance, but they need to be more creative to deny you coverage" that was repealed in 8 years, and recovered the economy for the most influential of his constitutents

The Dems are well on their way because party leaders with terrible ideas are still not relinquishing any control, like Perez isn't just ideologically aligned with Obama, Obama picked him to basically be a proxy for him to control the DNC going forward? Because his stewardship will do wonders for the party. The hubris of someone who was succeeded by reality TV star Donald J Trump is astounding to behold really.

After all, most agree that Ellison and Perez are similarly progressive — and that there didn’t seem to be any real substantial gaps in their strategies for fixing the Democratic Party. can someone explain this logic? it seems, uh, a little specious and pretty drat self-centered.

Obama is a coward largely concerned with personal optics over all else and will never, ever put himself out there on anything that might make him look less than presidential. And personally criticizing a sitting president would be "a bad look" for him. So he wants a proxy.
