It's not that they hate healthcare, technically. It's more than it gets in the way of their true love: taking every last nickel and rerouting it to the 1%.

OK, they hate healthcare.

Because rich people are just as loving stupid as everyone else. They look at their tax bill, their monocle pops off comically, and they go on a rampage to make sure the number gets smaller no matter what! Without ever considering anything but the numbers themselves.

Last year 20 million Americans chose to die instead of getting treatment for their cancer. Now the democrats are going to tell you this is because of us, but to all those dead people it was about liberty, freedom, and the right to choose to leave this all behind. It doesn't get more American than that.

Adding to everything that was said before; Republicans don't hate healthcare itself. They just don't believe that government should be involved in any way, either through subsidies like Medicare, or mandated (mandatory health care or you have to pay a tax penalty). Capital R Republicans believe in free market health care which leads to things like uninsurable (high risk) people who have preexisting conditions. It also might mean that Republican care could be less expensive (market forces dive down costs due to competition) or more expensive (no pool of low risk individuals subsidizing high risk individuals)

One big election LOL is that we have 2 kinds of Republicans in charge, Ryan Republicans who would prefer no government involvement, and Donald whose promises require a lot of government involvement, and they are diametrically opposed.

Ryan's take: we have crunched the numbers ourselves and found that there could be as few as 0 people uninsured!!!! If they all choose to afford our healthcare plan that is. Now, we're definitely not raising wages in any way and we'll spend the rest of our time in office dismantling unions, but that's all to increase your freedom even more! Welp, bye!

I have a new theory of economics, it's trickle down 2.0, or as I prefer to call it, bubbling economics. You see, by cutting taxes on the rich we add to investment in companies. This allows young well run organizations like Uber and American Apparel to grow, bubbling as it were.

Republicans are supposed to be the party of small government and free markets. Socializing Nationalizing health care is against their ideology that says free markets will lead to better quality and lower costs. Traditionally their party also opposes an over-reliance on government.

In reality that's only part of it. If Obamacare "succeeds" then the people give credit to the Democrats. And healthcare industry lobbyists play a big role as well I would think.

The ACA was just a market study for the insurance companies at this point. They got all this great data out of it and now they can figure out the absolute best way to maximize enrollments while providing as little service as possible (open markets, separate plans for pre-existing conditions etc...). The only reason they started pulling plans out of the market place early was because they had all the info they needed on it. They fully expected to eat it big in those first few years.
