So I thinking of selling my warthog thrustmaster. I am just kind of sick of it. The buttons and triggers are too annoying to depress, needing way too much force which just makes my hand hurt after long play sessions. The switches are kind of unreliable too. The whole thing is metal except the gimbal which is plastic which is bonkers. So my question is, what is the best HOTAS for elite?

Warthog. …but the T.16000 seems to get a lot of positive reviews, although the slide throttle rubs some people the wrong way.

I have the CH products Fighterstick and Pro Throttle and they feel as new as the day before Elite came out when I bought em. They have a generic plastic feel to them but they have all the buttons I need, and they're easy to configure with their software, CH control center. Costs a pretty penny, but seeing how you blew some serious cash on that thrustmaster as is, shouldn't be an issue. My buddy has the T16000 HOTAS. He still hasn't gotten around to configuring a single button but they have a solid feel to them.

Flying an anaconda with an AI fighter pilot is so so rad. The drift on the anaconda is awesome. Really feels like a huge ship. It feels like cheating though, melt everything, never worry about shields. Is there a fighter command that makes it so it will auto fire on whatever target you're firing on?

This is pretty effective in RES because only the ships you're actually messing with will be marked hostile. But in a CZ your AI pilot will run around and shoot at whoever. But really the correct answer for CZs is to give your AI buddy the keys to your overengineered deathship and let them sort the situation out.

Do you mean somehow having your account reverted to before Quince? I don't see why you should have to pay for simply using an exploit that's been coded into the game, whether intentionally or just by sloppy programming. Anyway, I'm in the same boat

Finally upgraded my Keelback (and got out from under the insurance payment ), gonna jump to Quince with my 4A FSD and try to make some cash before patch. Having a fighter is so fuckin' cool I use a pre-MadCatz Saitek X52, and I love how the thing was pretty much plug-and-play with sensible bindings. No idea what modern saitek hardware is like, but I love the way this game feels with a hotas. I'm going to take it to my buddy's Vive setup and try it out, I bet it feels like the future

I think I read on the frontier forums about people getting a stern email for combat logging and stuff before. I haven't yet had an email about Quince (checked 10 mins ago), so I wouldn't worry about it. I managed to Quince it all the way to Cutter rank and I'm still making mad stacks of cheddar.

I've been giving this game a good long look since I like space sims and my bar is really low (I like No Mans Sky a whole lot) The only thing that's giving me pause is that there seems to be a lot of emphasis on EVE online-esque fuckery like ganking which I'm concerned about. All PvP in noted single-player game Elite: Dangerous is optional. You're required to be on-line to participate in the background economic simulation, but other than that you can be in Solo mode and never encounter another soul. The new patch is giving more of a reason to play with other people, though.

Fojar38 posted:I've been giving this game a good long look since I like space sims and my bar is really low (I like No Mans Sky a whole lot) In all my time playing, I've been shot at by other players maybe five times. Not one of them ended up with me being dead, because if you know what to do then it's pretty easy to escape from a threat. The best way to evade interdiction—and this will all make more sense in context when you have the game—is to immediately submit to the interdiction, flip 180° to face your attacker, boost towards them with full power to shields, target a nearby star system and jump to it while keeping your engines facing away from your attacker at all times until your jump is charged up. PVP is super rare, though. And even if you go to a place where it's concentrated, you can avoid it by paying attention to who is around you.

It's been great so far, and my biggest issue has been how to mount them on my desk comfortably. The "modern" Saitek/Logitech stick is the X56 which, despite looking like a blue-painted version of the X55, is apparently pretty bad Chinese junk now. Amusingly, it means an older used X55 sells for about $100 more than a brand new X56.

The first one that arrived had half the controls not working out of the box. Got it quickly and easily replaced through Amazon and haven't had too much problem with the replacement in the last 2 months. It's great for the number of controls and where they are located. I especially love the two small analog thumbsticks, one on the stick and one on the throttle. They are fantastic for thrusters, and also are great controls for the galaxy map when in VR. But from all the reviews I've read I'm expecting it to just crap out at any moment. The throttle on it is oddly very stiff, but that actually hasn't been an issue in the game. I feel like it actually gives a little bit better control because you can't slam the throttle back and forth in a panic of overcompensation.

Fojar38 posted:Well, I went ahead and bought the game. Any tips for a fresh player? Before you worry about upgrading out of your newbie Sidewinder you should take advantage of the unlimited free replacements and goof around in it for a while. You get 100% of the value of modules back when you resell them but only 90% of the total value of a ship when you sell a hull, so you can feel free to play around with loadouts and try stuff and fully upgrade whatever you have, then when you want to get rid of a ship and upgrade to something else remember to strip it down to cheapest components first to get more of your money back. It's not a big difference at first but you can save yourself millions with higher tier stuff.
